I do not know how these DVD rips work. What type of file is it?

Here are the possibilies I see:

-several .rar files or one large .rar file
-several DVD Files (VIDEO_TS.xxx, VTS_XX_X.xxx, etc...)
    -an .ISO
    -a bin/cue
    -a media file

A DVD needs a VIDEO_TS folder and AUDIO_TS folder. Withing the VIDEO_TS folder must be several files like VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, etc...). If what you have is not like this, then you may not have a DVD Rip.

If you have a .ISO or .BIN/.CUE, then there is a chance that it is a DVD. Open the image with DVD Shrink and test it out.

You probably do not have .rar files since you are able to play the movie.

if you have a media file, .avi, .mkv, .ogm, etc... then it is not a DVD file. "DVD Rip" could just mean that it was ripped from a DVD and then encoded into a different format. The result would be of higher quality than something that was recorded from VHS or TV. You would need a software like convertXtoDVD, avi2dvd, etc...

If you know the file extension it is easy to tell. You can set this in the folder options through windows. Go to "tools=>folder options=>view". Then look for "hide extensions of known file types". Untick this box and click apply. You can know see the file extension. So a movie will be "name of movie.avi" instead of "name of movie".

If you are just downloading a media file such as .avi .mpg you will need to get a program that will convert it into a dvd format.
Use ConvertXtoDVD, with that you can put any media file into it and it will convert it into dvd format, ie having the AUDIO_TS and the VIDEO_TS folders, with all the neccessary files. and it will also burn it to the disc.
just search on google for ''ConcertXtoDVD'', there is a free version but it converts slower (im not sure if im alowed to say this but neway) and like every program theres a crack so that you dont have to pay for the full version.

    Hope this helps

You need to use a program like Nero Vision Express, DVDSanta, WinAvi etc. to make into DVD video format which would play on DVD player.
