Ok. I'm kind of new to backing up dvd's. I use DVD shrink and Nero to decrypt and burn the movies (I've also tried DVD Fab Decrypter without success.) My backup copies always have skips and glitches. When I riped my dvds to my harddrive using dvd fab the copies on the harddrive even had major glitches. I'm using Fuji 8x dvd+R's. I have an "i/o Magic" dvd burner. I think my burner is at fault. Any info would be welcome

Because this is happening during encoding to the hard drive it could be that you are using too much compression. Are you doing "movie only" backups with Shrink or copying the entire DVD?

Please test one more time by ripping with Shrink,. See if that has glitches when the files are burned to your HDD.

I'm assuming you are ripping with your burner. Your burner may well be the problem. Using a DVD-ROM drive to read the DVD with and then a DVD burner to burn with is the best way to go.

We have to know for sure if it is occurring during the rip portion of the process or the burn.

    More suggestions:

Make sure your burner firmware is up to date.

Try different media, Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. I hear that media made in Japan is supposed to always be good. Where were your Fujis' made?

    Slow down your burn speed.

Do your PC maintenance, defrag, disc clean-up, etc. Make sure your DMA is enabled.
