I have updated my xcopy platinum to 4.0.3.8. I have installed the patin-caufin drivers version 1.19 and have installed dvd43 on a windows xp machine. I have disabled my norton anti-virus real time protection. the dvd43 icon shows a green happy face with a copy protected dvd in the drive. When i try to make a backup of the dvd, dvdxopy says it is copy protected and offers information on how to get dvd43. I thought once I installed dvd43 it would be seemless to burn a dvd. Can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong?

    wllj01,

Well my friend, ya done shot yourself in da foot -

DVD XCopy is not designed to work on anything except a straight commercial, copyrighted DVD. When you used DVD43 you presented XCopy with something it doesn't recognize and wasn't designed to handle :-(

DVD43 rips a copyright and makes a DVD region free -

If you want DVD XCopy to work, you must disable DVD43 -

DVD43 (a freeware) was designed to work with CloneDVD or with DVD2One in place of AnyDVD (a $$$$ Program).

To give you a nice consolation prize that works with DVD XCopy Xpress, here is 321Gone, a cute little program that removes that annoying DVD XCopy Warning screen at the start of your Backup :)

I didn't want you going away empty handed ;D

When you want to experiment, come on back and we'll talk about programs that will work together -

BTW, Welcome to the Club -

    Pete

ScubaPete's probably right, but do you mean [bold]BEFORE[/bold] you had DVD43, DVDXCOPY Platinum gave you that error message about it wouldn't copy copy-protected discs? If so, you have a version of dvdxcopy that doesn't have the css decrpytion algorithim in it. Here in Australia, if you're buying retail, that's the only version you can buy! Sort of defeats the purpose of the prog, but that's progess for you. Gee I love that new Aussie-UsA "free-trade" agreement, next they'll be wanting our good beer! (instead of that crap fosters, which no one in Australia ever drinks, although it does make a nice paint stripper.

I understand what you are saying, but DVDxcopy said in their faq's that dvd43 would work with their program. That it would work and I wouldn't even notice it working. Are they just wrong? Is there another ripper that will work with them or do I have to start over with another copy program?

    wlhj01,

That's what I'm trying to say, you have no need for a ripper - DVD XCopy has it's own -

DVD XCopy doesn't like to copy copies - the best way to tell if it's a copy is that it has no, copyright and no region -

Instead of debating - just backup a DVD without an extra ripper and see for yourself.

DVD XCopy doesn't get along with so many programs that's why you read that there shouldn't be a problem with DVD43 - It might not hurt (then again, it might) but the one thing that no one will argue, it isn't helping -A DVD need be only ripped once - if you believe otherwise then you better use DVD Decrypter so that you rip 3 times and add SmartRipper so that you rip 4 times, etc. :~)

I must not be explaining this correctly. DVDxcopy worked fine until i upgraded to the new version. I had found no dvd's that it wouldn't copy. I assumed it had a ripper built in. Do you think the upgrade removed the ripper? And they are now trying to get around that by telling users to use dvd43.

    wlhj01,

No you still have a ripper - uninstall the program, reboot, reinstall it and reboot -

There's no way they would have released the program that wouldn't work -

They certainly wouldn't have approved DVD43 that is a hacked freeware - their reputation would be ruined -

I repeat, using DVD43 with DVD Xcopy is looking for trouble -

Now that I re-read your post I see you even said -
    So there you go -

I'm glad you having such good luck but somewhere you will find a copy that that it won't copy - they do exist :)

    Hi ScubaPete,
    I might be wrong but I think this article has confused Wlhj01. The article states that they now sell a ripper free version and you can use DVD43 to rip the movie. Below is the article;

Australian IT retailer Conexus has been forced by the country's anti-piracy organization, Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT, an ally of American MPAA), to pull off the shelves a DVD backup product DVD X Copy.

"The letter advised Conexus that, according to AFACT’s interpretation, the product was infringing Australian copyright law," a spokesperson for the company said. "They were told that legal action would follow if they continued to distribute it."

Product, which is developed by American 321 Studios, has sparked already six lawsuits against its developers -- four in States and two in the UK.

After the note from AFACT, Conexus pulled the product and contacted 321 Studios, who replaced the software with a version that ships without an internal DVD ripper. Buyers of the ripper-free version can make the software work exactly like the original that came with the ripper by installing some of the freeware DVD ripping tools that integrate with the Windows, such as DVD43.

    Thanks Mike,

I see what's happening on the other side of the world now - pretty stupid, Huh ?

    I stand humbly corrected -

God, what do they think they can do, put the Genie back in the bottle, and pretend it was never out ?

Maybe they can do it with the atomic bomb, ya think ?

Norton is on 321 studios blacklist as it can corrupt the burning process. My updated platinum works really well. Checkout the 321 studios forum. Lots of tips etc

    pulsar,

Since we can't seem to get you away from DVD Xpress (It took me awhile to set it aside) here is a little hacked software to rid yourself of that annoying warning screen at the backup's beginning - it's called 321Gone ~ ~

    Enjoy,

Where can you get a download of DVD43....all my searches result in circular links on aferdawn...is this website assoc with 123studios anyway?

I HAD TO install DVD43 to start with Platinum..I didnt realize my region wasnt set on my DVDRW drive...I think this is why...and Platinum pointed me right to the download.

Here I am 2+ weeks later....needing it again and I cant find it! Its small, maybe someone can just send it to me

I fixed my problem. Uninstalled dvdxopy and reinstalled it. Looks like they removed the ripper with the update. Won't fall for that again. You can find a copy of dvd43 by going to google.com and typing in dvd43. It will give you a download site.

    Hello all!

Sort of new to these forums so if i make a mistake then its just tough luck :)

I've been using dvd express with no luck and was advised by their tech support to upgrade to the lpatinum version. Said byebye to more money and paid for platinum only to find out I couldn't get that to work either! I have only been able to back up two dvds out of my collection of 19. Not really good!

DVD platinum gives me a message saying it can not copy the disk as it is CSS Copy Protected. I thought this was whole point of the software!

Other message I get is Error reading sectors and UnableReadDvd. After browsing through forums, I saw advice that this was probably a scratched or dirty dvd. (My dvd collection is pristine so i ruled this out) In experimenting, I found that I was getting these messages because the dvd i inserted was USA format while my drive is set to UK region. So, if you getting these messages you could try and alter the dvd region on your pc and see if that helps. (But don't trust me, I'm just a newbie!!)

Anyway, if anyone has any advice please let me know!
321 studios software pointed me to advice about copying CSS Encrypted movies. I was pointed to a page saying I needed a third party tool called DVD43 (Dvd for free) I have searched through load of search engines from different countries, searched FTP space etc.... Reading the news about this, web site owners and hosting companies have been threatened with legal action by the hollowood studios if they host this software.

I have paid about 70 uk pounds to 321 studios for software that will not work....

Anyone got any ideas, let me know, please!

sjwilson: Rather pointless to direct users to a Japanese page that then again links back to AfterDawn.com, don't you think?-) DVD43's "semi-official" URL is this:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd43.cfm

...and it should be only used with DVD X Copy products when there's a version that doesn't include the built-in ripper. Only countries that I know that sell ripper-free edition on retail shelves are Australia, Italy and Germany.

Ah, apologies then :) We've had miserable two months since we switched platforms around Christmas in terms of uptime & other problems and it is most likely that there was some sort of a problem with downloads as well.

    Hi all,

Seems foolish to mention it but should you go to the top of this page, type in DVD43 where it says search, then click the first thing you see when the search ends you'll have an English version download of DVD43 -

Another little hack freeware is 321Gone to gets rid of that 321 Warning screen at the beginning of an XCopy Xpress backup -

    http://psidoc0.tripod.com/

I can't wait until all of you try DVDShrink and see for yourselves how great a freeware program can be - like me, you'll be shelving your 321 products and wishing you had your money back :D
