Hi there jero82, Welcome to our little corner of the Web,

I suggest you check your Black List for 321 products -

    Blacklist

The following programs can cause problems while using our software. Your situation sounds like one of these are installed:

    1. B's Clip: This Program has packet writing applications and also tries to control the burner. To remove you must go to Add or Remove Programs in your control panel. For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com.

    2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk: These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. To remove them you need to do to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to change, not remove. Then you must click next until it gives you the option to modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click next and while the program may look like it is installing, it is removing those options. One thing to remember is that both Direct CD and Drag to Disk will not be installed at the same time. For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
    3. GoBack: backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) this needs not only to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this means the customer will loose all their old restore points, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space. For more information visit Symantecís web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html
    4. HP DLA: DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment and interferes with DVDXCopy or DVDXCopy Xpress accessing the dvd burner. After removing this in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, the computer should be rebooted. For more information, check the HP website at http://www.hp.com/
    5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom. This can sometimes be removed via Add or Remove Programs in control panel, but sometimes it converts to a TSR (Terminate and Stay Ready) and has to be removed from task manager. To open Task Manager, hit the ctrl, alt and delete keys at the same time, then click task manager Then InCD must be found under processes and ended there. For more information go to Neroís website at http://www.nero.com/en/
    6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player: These programs are DVD software viewers that can be installed off of the DVD movies themselves. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add or Remove programs in control panel when found. Then the 321 studios software needs to be un-install, the 321 studios file folder deleted, the computer rebooted, the 321 Studios software re-installed. For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/
    7. McAfee Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Then whenever the customer is attempting to burn, McAfee needs to be disabled. For more info go to McAfeeís website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp
    8. Norton Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic update should be shut down via the Task Manager. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Then whenever the customer is attempting to burn, Norton Anti-Virus needs to be disabled. The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/
9 . Veritas DLA: This program uses Disk Letter Assignment for backup purposes. Just the DLA portion needs to be removed, which cane be done in Add or Remove Programs in control panel. After removing the software the computer should be rebooted. The Veritas website is http://www.veritas.com/

Spyware - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-Aware, available freely at www.lavasoftusa.com

If you perform any of these changes, please make sure to fully uninstall your copy of our software delete the 321studios folder in the program files directory shut down and reboot twice and then reinstall our software.

    ASPI Update

If you are using an internal dvd burner install Force ASPI from this link:
    ftp://supportfiles.321studios.com/ASPI/ForceASPI.exe
After installing the ForceASPI file, then double click on the pink icon that it puts on your desktop , and follow the directions.
It should make you restart if installed correctly.
If you are having difficulties downloading make sure you have windows and other firewalls disabled.
If that does not help, you probably need to go to the manufacturer's website, and update the drivers for your ROM drive.
    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverindex.html
    Correct ForceASPI Install
Did the ForceASPI file make you restart after installing it? If not then run the pink icon that should now be on your desktop.

If you are using an external dvd burner connected via USB2 or Firewire install Force ASPI 2 from this link:
    ftp://supportfiles.321studios.com/ASPI/ForceASPI2.exe

    MsConfig

Certain programs running in the background can use system resources and cause our software to experience burning issues.
To disable your start up group go to start, run, and type in msconfig and hit enter, then click on the startup tab.

    Windows XP(Home & Pro):
If you are running Windows XP you will click the disable all button.

    Windows Me:
If you are running Windows Me disable all items that are not Windows system processes.

    Windows 98:
If you are running Windows 98 disable all items except for Systray and Explorer.

    Windows 2000:
Windows 2000 does not have this utility please make sure to close all programs through your system tray.

    Play the Movie

Make sure that you shut off everything else that you can, including the screen saver, when you start the process.

    1) Play the movie for 2-3 minutes.
    2) Start up our software while the movie is still playing.
    3) If you are using Dvd X Copy, go to the STREAM PROCESSING tab, and check the option to ENABLE STREAM PROCESSING. You will see a list of options, make sure that the first two options are checked and uncheck the rest. Proceed in ripping the DVD. *This option will not be available nor is it necessary in Express*
    4) Choose the target folder that you want to rip into.
    5) Click on the start button
    6) Shut off the movie

If none of this helps, you probably need to go to the manufacturer's website, and update the drivers for your ROM drive.

    Updates

    Windows Updates

Every version of windows requires updates. To be sure your system is completely up to date go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
If you are using Windows XP please visit http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/sp1/default.asp to download service pack 1.
If you are using Windows 2000 please visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/

    DVD Writer

Most DVD writer manufacturers periodically release updates for the drives. The latest firmware is essential for the success of our software.
Here is a list of manufacturers and the sites they host these upgrades:

    Pioneer: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/hs/
    Sony: http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/index.htm
    Hp: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/software.html
    Cendyne: http://www.cendyne.com/support.asp
    Panasonic:http://www.panasonic.co.jp/dvdram/lim/eoem
Nec: These drives are not supported directly through the manufacturer please contact the vendor and OEM you purchased through

**When updating firmware it is imperative you have followed the blacklist procedure and do not have any packet writing software running*

    Cheers,

    Pete

PS If you should tire of DVD XCopy, stop back, we can hook you up with some free programs that will work with anyother PC programs and can backup a DVD in 3 mopuse clicks after setup - Yep, just 3 clicks and the price is FREE - Go Figure, Huh ?

The info list Pete supplied is right on. 321 is sensitive to its environment (they call it software interference). Some of the offending programs have even been known to interfere with other recording programs. Two of the worst culprits are Nero's InCD and Roxio's Drag to Disk. If you have these, they would be the first suspects. InCD has to be removed if present. Drag to Disk is one I can shut down and its okay. Some people have to remove that one as well. Shutting down programs is a good idea when recording.

I've also found that certain movies will not record with XCopy. Hope the separate movies you're using aren't by Disney, as several of the Disneys won't record with XCopy. (just threw in the part about the movies in case it has some bearing and as future reference). [bold]Not all movies will record with XCopy even when the program is not having other problems.[/bold]

Generally if Xcopy shuts down,, the temp file doesnt have enough room to store the VOB files.

Plain English, you are probably running out of hard drive space. If you do have a large harddrive, be certain that the partition that the temp file is on is on a partition that has at minimum, 12-15 GB of FREE, unused space.

321sucker brought up a good point.

Before we get into a lot of fixes we need to know a bit about the environment.

jero82, we need to know a bit about your PC.

Is this a desktop or laptop?

What is the CPU and speed (such as P4 at 2.8GHz)?

How large is the hard drive, it's speed (rpm), and the amount of free space? Most important is how large and how much free space.

How much RAM (memory) do you have?

Are there any programs such as Nero and Roxio on your PC? (from Pete's blacklist)

Whenyou did your full system restore, did you re-install your ASPI Layer ??

    http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/

Don't forget to go 1/2 way down the page and pick-up the ASPI Checker -

Re-reading your thread, you never answered 321sucker's question. Brobear asked also - How much HD space are you working with and as brobear asked way back at the beginning of time, Your PC's specs -

Lastly, Compaq's usally come with Roxio installed, Please take a second and tell me How you uninstalled it -

Also, take a good look at this thread, We have been pulling information from you - you post on the average of 3 sentances - time to answer all of the questions we've asked, typing be damned :)

    jero82,

Do you get any error messages?

Sometimes these diagnostics can be like pulling teeth, so bear with us. I need you to download a couple of programs, they're free or trial, so no cost. The reason I want you to do this is because we need to know if the problem is isolated to the DVDXCopy software or elsewhere in the system. By running another program we can see if your system works properly.

Download the DVD Shrink program here at AD. Then go to Nero and download the 30 day free trial. Do not open the InCD portion of the Nero download. InCD is known to cause problems with DVD recording software. DVD Shrink is an easy to use program and there are guides here at AD if you need to look at them. Plus Shrink is in many threads here at AD, so lots of info. Nero works automatically with Shrink, so no set up unless you make changes. Just use Shrink and burn automatically with Nero.

By doing this install, it will save all of us a lot of time. It will tell us if you are having problems with your DVDXCopy software or if the problem lies elsewhere.

Here is a slightly different version of the checklist that Pete gave you, there is a bit more info in some spots, so you may want to go over and review. It's highlighted, so just skim and note what may apply. Some extra URLs as well.

    Here is the bulletin:

The following programs can cause problems while using our software. Your situation sounds like one of these are installed:
[bold]1. B's Clip:[/bold] This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to remove it.
For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com.
[bold]2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk:[/bold] These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. To remove them you need to go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to Change - not Remove. Then you click next until it gives you the option to Modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click Next. While the program may look like it is installing, it is actually removing those options.
For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
[bold]3. GoBack:[/bold] This is backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) which not only needs to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space.
For more information visit Symantec's web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html
[bold]4. DLA: Also HP-DLA, Veritas DLA, and others[/bold]. DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to remove it.
[bold]5. InCD:[/bold] This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom.
For more information go to Nero's website at http://www.nero.com/en/
[bold]6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player:[/bold] These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves everytime you watch a movie on your computer. Please make sure to NOT let these install. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel when found. In some cases, you will need to uninstall and reinstall our software to restore functionality after removing one of these.
For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/
[bold]7. McAfee Anti-Virus:[/bold] This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, McAfee needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive.
For more info go to McAfee's website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp
[bold]8. Norton Anti-Virus:[/bold] This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic updates should be disabled. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, Norton needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive.
    The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/
[bold]9. StopZilla:[/bold] StopZilla can hinder required portions of our installer, causing the software to fail. Please completely disable StopZilla, then install our software. Once our software is installed, you may safely enable it again. If you have any difficulty using our software at a later time, you may need to disable StopZilla before going to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
[bold]10. MyStorageGuard:[/bold] This backup software can hinder certain required files from being copied during the installation. Please disable this program before installing our software, and have it disabled any time you go to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
[bold]11. Napster 2.0:[/bold] This software includes some basic burning software that can cause burning problems if it is running. You will need to close this program completely before trying to use our software. In some rare cases, you will need to completely uninstall this package to attain full reliability, so if disabling does not solve your issue, please try uninstalling this software, and try again.
[bold]12. Easy CD Creator 4.x:[/bold] Due to the age of this package, it is no longer updated by the authors. There are bugs present in this older system that will cause NUMEROUS problems on your machine, not just with our software. Please Uninstall completely, and consider either the new 6.x version from Roxio (http://www.roxio.com) or Nero 6.x (http://www.nero.com). These packages, installed without the Packet Writing software (DirectCD/Drag to Disk/InCD), all work very well together with our software.
[bold]13. NTI FileCD:[/bold] This program has packet writing software installed with it. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot twice to fully remove it.
For more information go to NTI FileCD's Product page at http://www.ntius.com/default.asp?p=cdmaker/filecd_main
[bold]Spyware and Adware[/bold] - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-aware, available freely at www.lavasoftusa.com
If you perform any of these changes, you may need to uninstall our software, then re-install to fix any damage left. If you find some of these packages, please shut down and reboot twice to ensure that the last pieces of the conflicting software are completely removed.
Every version of windows requires updates. These updates correct a multitude of problems that are found, on many levels.
To be sure your system is completely up to date go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
If you are using Windows XP please visit http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/default.asp
If you are using Windows 2000 please visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/default.asp
You will also want to update your Direct X control to insure full functionality of any of our programs. You will want to download, and install Direct X 9 from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads
[bold]Certain programs running in the background can use system resources and cause our software to experience burning issues.[/bold]
To disable your start up group go to start, run, and type in msconfig and hit enter, then click on the startup tab.
    Windows XP(Home & Pro):
If you are running Windows XP you will click the disable all button.
    Windows Me:
If you are running Windows Me disable all items that are not Windows system processes.
    Windows 98:
If you are running Windows 98 disable all items except for Systray, Explorer and Scanreg.
    Windows 2000:
Windows 2000 does not have this utility please make sure to close all programs through your system tray.
[bold]Please update your ASPI software[/bold] by installing the software at this link:
    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe
Follow the instructions carefully, and make sure to reboot afterwards.

Here are the links for DVD Shrink and Nero -

    Shrink download - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

Shrink Guide - (You won't need that today.)
    http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm

and Nero - Like brobear mentioned, do the 30-day free trial :)

The 30-day, free, fully functional Nero 6 download can be had here:
    http://www.nero.com/us/631939541422774.php

For what brobear wants to do all you need is to have Nero installed on your PC. You need not even open it, DVD Shrink will use it - kind of - behind the scene -

(Always check with us before purchasing Nero as we come across “Specials” from time to time that can save you some dough. )

Here is a guide, print it out so that you can double check your settings -

    HINT:
I create a folder on my Desktop named " All DVD Work" and before ripping my DVD’s I create another sub-folder with the name of the movie I'm backing up. (i.e. “All DVD Work\Pirates of the Caribbean.”)

Let’s go over our settings for DVD Shrink.
When we open DVD Shrink, go to “Edit,” check to make sure that “Full disc Backup” is checked. Next, go to “Preferences,” where is says “DVD Target size” I select “Custom” and in the size box I put 4279MB. That allows you a bit of wiggle room on your disc so that you’re not writing to the very edge of your disc. NOTE: A 4.7GB disc only holds 4.36GB of data. I like a tiny bit of room when I burn hence, the 4279MB instead of 4360MB. Make sure the “User preferences” boxes are all “ticked”. Under the “Preview tab” be sure the “Enable video and audio preview” is “ticked”. Under the “Output Files tab” “tick” the top 4 boxes. The “Stream Selections” should be fine. Under the “File I/O tab,” - “tick” “Enabled overlapped I/O” and “Check RPC drive region code”. Under “Burn settings,” “tick” “Enable burning with Nero.” NOTE: When you wish to have Nero do it’s “Automatic burning thingie” make sure this box is “ticked.” Tick this box now ! DVD Shrink can also burn an ISO image with DVD Decrypter, when you wish to use DVD Decrypter as your burning engine, make sure this box is “un-ticked.” When you are finished, click “OK.”

Alrighty then, are you ready ? Good ! Let’s do us an entire disc backup - -

Please do your homework and find the correct media for this project. The proper discs are extremely important and can make the difference between a good backup or a “Coaster”. (A coaster is a disc which didn’t burn correctly and therefore is good for nothing other than a beer coaster. Lol)

Place your original in your DVD ROM drive (if you have 2 drives) and put your blank in your burner’s drive tray. If you only have the one drive - put your original there and continue on - when your blank is needed, that is the time to swap discs. Click “Open Disc” - find your drive and click “OK,” - DVD Shrink is now ripping your DVD - Cool Huh ? If you want an entire disc, which we do today, everything is completely “Automatic” - (Just to make sure, check the top of the window, “Full Disc” should already be depressed - Now don’t get upset, it likes being depressed, I just don’t want you being depressed - ) - (lol) OK, then, moving on - -

When you click "Backup" in DVD Shrink, a box will come up saying “Backup DVD.” Under the “Target Device” tab where it says “Select target device” choose your burner’s drive. Where it says” Target Folder:” click "Browse" and trace your path back to "All DVD Work\ Pirates of the Caribbean ". Under the “DVD Region” tab, make sure “Region Free” is “ticked”. Under “Backup options”, “tick” “Perform Deep analysis” (it takes longer but with your longer pictures, it makes the picture quality Ooohh so much better :) - while we’re here let’s also “tick” the “Run backup in low priority mode” box too. Now click “OK” - Guess what, we’re done and done !!
DVD Shrink will place a copy of your DVD’s files in a folder named VIDEO_TS and a folder named AUDIO_TS. This last one is empty so you need not worry about it. When all the compression etc. is finished DVD Shrink will open Nero and use it’s burning engine to burn your backup to your disc. You won’t see it, you’ll just see DVD Shrink’s preview window on your desktop. Feel free to minimize it if you wish BUT, use your PC for nothing else until this work is done.

Last step: “STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER !”

Clear the room then, clear your throat and yell, “Burn Baby BURN ! ”

Do not fold, spindle, mutilate, molest nor fondle the keyboard. GO AWAY !
Ms. Computer will let you know when she is finished, everything is good, don’t mess with it now !

Now when DVD Shrink is finished, it will give you a VIDEO_TS folder and an AUDIO_TS folder in your “All DVD Work\ Pirates of the Caribbean” folder. Now, if you need to burn a second DVD copy, days down the road, all you have to do is give that folder to Nero or any burning engine and nothing needs to be done, it can be burned directly to disk. At one point in time I had 23 movies sitting there, just waiting for my shipment of blank DVD media to arrive.

    Enjoy,

    Hey 'Pete
If jero doesn't get a movie after all this, something has to be askew. Glad you inserted those links. Sometimes I get in a hurry and don't put them in. We should know something soon, if they follow instructions and come back. I've had people drop in, ask a question and never know what happened.

Hopefully, we will see if there is an isolated problem or a system problem. 321 software can be more touchy than other software.

    brobear,

If he has done all, and I repeat ALL of the things we suggested, he HAS to be able to burn a DVD or he should take his PC in to be serviced -

hi everyone, sorry i haven't replied sooner. I was able to copy dvd using dvdshrink, no problems. But still not with DVDXCopy. I have been working together with 321Sucker for 2 days straight, with no solution. We have put it down to incompatibility with AMD processor & Nvidia Nforce chipset

    Thanks for all your help!

Glad it is an isolated soft issue and not a system problem for all dvd recording software. At least now you have a prog that will work. Glad to see you're able to record. By the way did you go through the complete 321 check bulletin?

I would be more suspect of some type of software interference or some part of the setup being off, wherever it may be. True some systems will not operate 321 soft, but again I suspect the soft packages. They may have done it, but I can't see a R&D department making such a huge error and having a problem with such a large group of PCs with such a large market share. That's asking for more returns and bad publicity than a company can afford.

Then again 321sucker may know more than we do. I hear he was asscociated with 321 Studios in some capacity. [bold]As you put your trust in 321sucker and the problem wasn't worked with on the forum, you have made it impossible for anyone else to form any sort of conclusion; except that the Shrink works and the 321 doesn't.[/bold]

Yep, yep brobear, Now should we run across that same problem again, we won't have 321's expert advise to refer to - we'll have to muddle through and 321 will be called upon to retype all that he did in private once again in public - Not necessarily difficult for him but for me, to have to do the same thing all over from scratch, it would be a chore :-(
And that's (pay attention Newbies) why I don't answer my PM's in detail but refer them to the forum -

    Just my thoughts -
