    Hi 5cent,
Welcome to Afterdawn! You can find everything you need to know about creating video backup copys here. Generally its a two step process, "ripping" the video files from the DVD and then "burning" them to a blank, compatable disc. During the ripping process the program decrypts the files and stores them on your hard drive. Some programs will allow you to compress and edit the movie to fit on your disc. (Most movies are way to large to fit) Once the files are on your hard drive, decrypted and sized to fit, they can be burned to your blank disc. There are some programs such as X CopyExpress that will do the entire process for you. AnyDVD along with CloneDVD work together to both rip and burn.(free trial!) Another favorite way to rip is with DVD Shrink (Free!) then a burning program such as Burnatonce or Nero is used to burn the movie. Read through the posts here, look at the guides and see what programs you are interested in. We really do enjoy helping newcomers have sucess with their video projects!
    Good luck!
    Frank

Can you explain in more detail what happens when you try to use Xcopy? Is you media +R or -R? Are you using quality media?

dvdxcopyxpress goes thru the reading process just fine. It then asks for blank disk.I insert it in the dvd r/w drive. Nothing happens after that. The blank dvd's that I tried to use are memorex dvd-r. Don't know if they good or not. What do u suggest?

5cent, you are using one of the poor versions with problems. Update to 3.2.1 Express. It should help. Jerry

I too am having problems with x copy express. It reads the disk fine. When I put in a blank disk and press burn, the timer goes up to 5 minutes with no progress in the progress bar. Then it ejects the disk like it is done. When I watch the DVD, I can see the first 30 seconds of the opening credits for the film and it freezes up. Visually I can see only the inside part of the disk was burned. I tried uninstalling drop to disk that came with Roxio after learning it could be a problem. I tried disabling Pc-cillin and uninstalling then reinstalling the software with no success. I have over 15 coasters already (different brands). I know th DVD burner works because it works fine with Roxio 6 (just takes longer using freeware to create the disk image). What else can I do? Is there a way to use Roxio's burn engine ?

besthorne, you can't use anything else with DVD X Copy express as a burner program. If you want to try something different, download Dvdshrink(free) and use it as the ripper-decrypter, then burn back with other software. Most use Nero with dvdshrink. It works .There is a separate forum for X copy questions. Just remember to remove packet writing software, and close any background running programs like anti-virus software, before using X copy Express. X copy needs to run by itself with nothing else going.
