What the hell could've happened here, I started my PC up and the E drive is gone and no DVD or CD's will respond!

I went to device manager to check it and it said it wasn't detecting it, I ran a troubleshoot and it said" this device cannot start (code 10)"

Does anyone know what could've happened?

    Thanks fellas

Make sure that all of the cables are properly connected. This could happen if the power cable or data cable is loose. Speaking of which, can you open or close the drive by pushing the button? This will answer whether or not it's getting power.

Oh yea, it opens and closes fine, it's just that the drive dissapeared.

I'll try and connect everything, I think it's all connected though.

The article doesn't specifically mention Vista. I would check the registry and see if those keys exist. If so, do a backup, and then try deleting them. If it works, you're good to go, if not, then you can restore the keys that were deleted by using the backup you made.

By the way, did you remove any cd burning software from your computer? I'm just curious, because I haven't ran across this specific problem before.
