Sheethead, why are u being so stubborn, u could have done what i asked by now and probably be burnin'instead of arguing why u shouldn't. I had the SAME problem til I did what i told you. Powerpacks 1 and 2 deal with programs, if u get 1 u must get 2. PP3 deals with inCD-forget that, PP4 is nero showtime which u don't need but i like it. I also bought the SAME version u did, i still had to register those 3 i told u about, still got updates, and STILL downloaded PP 1&2. Also Toolkit. I give up. Good luck, I'm outta here PS-yo brobear, how's it hangin my man?

siber, you did get that extra stuff. No it wasn't there before. Same thing happened to me. The list seems to double doesn't it. Also, I didn't have the dvd-video plug in to start out with, but the program will let you know if it's reading it or not when you get into it. _

The website states that plug-in is included with the latest versions. I think the only listed plug-in you have to pay for is the mp3?PRO one. I am glad you also noticed all that extra stuff. I was starting to think I was having more and more senior moments...What happened to Sheathead? Is he maybe still trying to figure out the Burn-at-once button? Sometimes I get all twisted about some function/malfunction of some program too. Even if it turns out not to have a whole lot of practical impact.

Yeah, I wasn't really sayin' he didn't have the plug-in, just that if he would register the 3 programs, install updates, and install powerpacks, i think it will work. As you know all programs are constantly coming out with new updates, no matter how new your version is. I know it doesn't make sense to re-register a program within a program, especially with the original #, but that's what you gotta do. Again, you can lead a horse to water, but.........

One thing about Ahead, the research and development team tries to keep ahead (Pun) with Nero. I check the site at least once a month to see if anything is new. Sometimes they go for a long time with nothing new and then they will add a lot of things in a few months as they just recently did.

    For sheethead:
I could kick myself. All that checking and stuff. Here's the easy if you haven't got if fixed yet. Open the startsmart console. Make sure the dvd choice is on the top right. Open Photo and Video as the choice. Recode is either listed in right column 2nd down. If not there you don't have the latest version, get it from the site (Free download). When you select recode, one of two things will happen. It will either open or you will get a warning screen. The warning screen tells you what you need. If you try to record when using recode and you need an additional plugin, You will get the warning screen again. I should have mentioned that earlier. That way Nero itself will tell you what is needed.

I'm at work so I can't check anything in Nero right now. I'll check tonight.

    bigorange,
My apologies if I've aggravated you, not my intention at all. When recode2 worked other than the burn at once feature I assumed Nero was installed and working properly.I'll play with again tonight.

I thought I had multichannel plugin for Nero and I don't. So I still have to get it. If this is any kind of indicator for you. The program is there, but when you go to enter the command button the screen pops up to tell you what you need. I can record in stereo by hitting ok. Just no 5.1 channel Dolby.

Hey brobear, hadn't thought of that, good idea. Recode 2 should also be listed on the left column when u first open smartstart, i think second up from the bottom, above tool kit. To sheethead, u didn't aggravate me man, i guess it kinda does look that way. I'm still gonna stick in here, and i hope everything works out for ya. I think you'll be surprised at how much u can compress with recode and still get a great picture. good luck.....

I feel better now, I didn't want you to think I was unappreciative, I most certainly am. I've never experienced any software registering practices as I do now with Nero. Registering a segment of a program serial #'s within a already registered program is becoming rocket science, which I failed miserably at.
However, I do love a challenge and am always up for one, I'll keep plugging until I get it right.
You guys gave me everything I need to know, it's up to me to do it without any further details.
Thank God for Acronis True Image, I have about 15 Image backups of my system at various stages. Only takes me 7 minutes to restore the drive to an earlier date.
It is by far my most treasured piece of software, has saved me countless hours, much better than Symantec Ghost or Power Quests Drive Image,a company that Symantec has now bought out.

That's the least I can do.
Beauty of the program is that you can backup XP while still in it, no rebooting. If possible, try to burn the image to a hard drive rather than CD's or DVD, much faster. I have an external 60 gig running off USB2 that has all my backups and software on it. I always keep it off unless I need it, a safe practice in the event a virus appears.
