If someone wins the auction but doesn't buy the item what happens? What is the unpaid item strike and what does it do?

the non buying winner will most likely get negative feedback and people wont let them bid on their auctions. the unpaid item strike lets sellers know that buyer buys things and dont pay for them.

A bid or Buy It Now purchase on eBay is considered a contract and you are obligated to purchase the item.

However, mistakes sometimes happen, and many sellers are willing to work with you if you communicate with them openly and honestly. If you have not done so already, you may want to request the seller's contact information and give the seller a call. Let the seller know your situation, and see if you can work things out to everyone's satisfaction.

When a buyer does not pay for an item the buyer has won or purchased, it costs the seller time and money. eBay’s Unpaid Item policy is necessary to enforce the contractual obligations entered into between buyer and seller by placing a bid or using Buy It Now and helps to facilitate successful trading on the site.

Exactely what Darthnip posted -the non buying winner will most likely get negative feedback and people wont let them bid on their auctions. the unpaid item strike lets sellers know that buyer buys things and dont pay for them.
    - That is what is gonna happen to the buyer -

    - and you will get a credit from Ebay and a chance to put back the item for sale !

actually, if you decide to proceed with a "non-paying bidder alert" dispute, the buyer DOES NOT PAY anything (if you come to agreement with them of course)...OR if you do NOT agree with ending the dispute where you BOTH have come to a mutual agreement, THEN you can give them a "strike"...which is NOT a good thing for them...3 strikes from sellers on a person's account can and usually get's them temporarily suspended...or sometimes, PERMANENTLY "no longer registered ebay user" ~ :)

i've actually got quite a few non-paying bidders banned from ebay~ LOL...i have no patience for that kind of stuff...i'm obviously not as "nice" as you are...

you will have the option of giving them a "strike" or not, it's your choice...if you do strike them, you will get an ebay "final value" fee credit back on your item since the buyer is not going to pay...all you really get hit with is your initial listing fee and any other extra listing "features" you paid for at the time of listing/posting up your auction~ :)

i've been using ebay for YEARS now and still use it today, non-paying bidders (those that win the auction, but don't pay for whatever reason) are a thorn in my side...usually, if they buy more than 1 item from me, i can easily get them banned from ebay with multiple reports of them not paying...i feel it's a decent way for ebay to protect it's sellers...cuz without sellers, EBAY would be NOTHING~! :)

hope that clarifies a bit for ya~

    docTY~

    Hi,
Just putting a slightly different slant on this - what about the seller who decides not to honour a contractual agreement?
I recently bought a mobile phone, well, I thought I had, with no reserve price on it. Seemed I had a bargain - but the seller informed me then that 'her Dad had sold it without her knowledge...sorry, it had already gone...'
Several letters followed, including one from her Dad - telling ME 'where to go'.
I reported it to Ebay who were distinctly unwilling or unable to do anything about it - and I finished up simply having to give a negative report back onto the seller's site - for whatever use that was!
That experience was a very unhappy one, I can tell you!
    Louis
