Hey guys, I just got an phishing email from a scammer posing as Ebay: From: "eBay Suport" <aw-confirm@ebay.com> To: *an address I had in an eBay post* (that is probably how I got the phisher to get my address!) Subject: Ebay Notification : Posibile Account Theft I edited phishing site via "l33t Speak" so people don't accidently click on it!! gem-sfcm.0rg/phpBB2/red1rect.to.cgi1.eb4y.c0m/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dllSignInpUserId=co_partnerId=siteid=0pageType=-1pa1=UsingS$L=1bshowgif=favoritenav=errmsg=8/ebayISAPI.dllUPdate/ Here are photos for the [bold]FAKE[/bold] site: [bold]The above image is the FAKE site![/bold] Below is the REAL eBay site: I noticed the following differences: The FAKE site is NOT SSL encrypted. The FAKE site was well done but, it shows the REAL domain (not eBay) in the address bar. The e-mail was as follows: From: "eBay Suport" <aw-confirm@ebay.com> To: *an address I had in an eBay post* (that is probably how I got the phisher to get my address!) "User Agreement" has a link to the fake site as well! Some of the links in the fake eBay site go to the real thing so it LOOKS legit but, it is NOT. Peace, Pop Smith P.S. If you get any other scams in your Inbox etc. post them here! EDIT: Correct links so you can see the pictures!
Pop_Smith, I am astonished. I have had a similar experience. I was searching for my ipod on ebay and looking to spend around 250 pounds. I tagged a particular one as 'watching' or 'monitoring' (whatever it is called). Then about a day later some bitch sent me an email saying she could do it for £80. Obviously I ignored it as it is an unrealistic price at 1/4 of its' retail price. But they also showed me the infamous phoney 'login page'. I didnt sign in (not because i suspected anything, but i couldnt be asked luckily) Then about a week later(you may get this, pop_smith)I got an email from the real ebay saying that 'it came to their knowledge i was contacted by [e-bayname of scammer] and that sometimes people use illegal methods in order to gain personal/private details. Until now, I STILL never really suspected anything major. I thought it was a 'they grab your money, and you get no item' sort of scam. but now you mention that, i was that close to being tricked out of potentially a lot of my money. damn! it is amazing in two ways. amazing that they could piece it all together so cleverly and make it look so authentic. Us lot here may not have been fooled. But for a computer newB, it would have been `god bless` to the bank savings. What's more amazing is that people cant get off there lazy asses and get an honest job, and how they can rob innocent hardworking people of their hard-earned. how they can have the cheek to invade their privacy and gain their trust before cleaning them out. it is disgusting and makes my blood boil. just imagine if you weren't as sharp as you were. just imagine if it happened to you. A lesson here guys. Be careful when shopping online. there are thousands of fraudsters and hackers about and they know what they are doing. As I nearly found out. Later Ppl. Lethal_Bizzle
yeah I used to get the phony paypal ones in my email all the time, asking me to update my info and all that BS. But I just got this ebay one last week. Its pretty scary, someone having no clue about this stuff could easily be tricked into giving away valuable info. I always check by placing the cursor over the hyperlinks, and instead of going to the correct website it reads some numbers and crazy characters...thats an easy tell right there. edit typo p.s. totally off topic, I'd just like to vent how much my ear hurts right now!!! I just got the "industrial" piercing in my upper ear, and holy sh*t it was by far the most painful piercing I've ever gotten...
i now delete all non-essential eBay emails straight away, ie adverts/cheap listing days etc. Anything else whatsoever, ie anything that looks like an important email i forward to spoof@ebay.co.uk, and so far every single one has come back as being a fake email..
I have had quite a few of these now, perhaps 8 in the last 6months. The first i received i almost believed, but becuase gmail gives the warning: 'This message may not be from whom it claims to be. Beware of following any links in it or of providing the sender with any personal information' I decided to spam it and report it to ebay. Ebay doesnt appear to have been able to solve it yet as i still get them every now and then. Got to be careful.
