Can I burn or overwrite, if not erase, a data disc DVD+R (not divx files) with avi (movie) files to be converted to DVD?

You cannot overwrite or erase a DVD+R (or DVD-R) disc once it has been written because the dye is permanently changed. You may be able to add or append the files, but the original files will remain on the first part of the disc.

Only rewritable discs can be erased or overwritten. They use a semi-metal alloy that can change instead of a permanent dye.
