Picked up a xbox at a yard sale and was told that error 06 appears when the xbox is turned on. Also, I was told no modding was done. The screws are messing on the bottom. I checked the connections inside the xbox and everything seems ok. Error 06 (Cannot unlock HDD)means that a bad mod took place or is there a bad connector? I was wondering can the xbox be saved by installing a chip and dashboard? I have been looking into the configmagic software but I am not sure on its purpose nor how to use it. Thanks for any input or websites that might help me.

Configmagic is a program that let's you view all of the hardware information in you Xbox, and has the ability to update the eeprom in case you get banned from Xbox Live, plus Configmagic has hard drive locking and unlocking features. The best way to fix your problem is to Mod the Xbox and buy a new unlocked hard drive, i'm not sure if the previous owner took a locked hard drive from another Xbox to replace a larger unlocked hard drive?? If that's the case the hard drive would have to be unlocked from the other Xbox?? Then again it could be a locked stock hd from another Xbox?? In either case, the Xbox appears to have been modded or serviced since the screws are missing, a modchip plus another unlocked hard drive will do the trick.......later
