I downloaded an avi file, and I can't get it to play, windows media player produces the error message "Class not registered" and gives the error code 0x80040154. I ran it in GSpot, and it says I have the relevant codec, but when I try to render, it gives the same error message. If anyone knows, what does the error message mean, microsoft support does not list it, and what (if anything) can I do about it?
no, the movie doesn't play. And the codecs are all working because I can play other avi files that use them, it's just this one avi file. I don't believe it's a fake either as I downloaded it from a trusted source, it may have been corrupted during download though, I was just wondering if this was a problem anyone else had encountered
Maybe the index of the movie got messed up. You can try and fix this by resaving the avi: Load movie in virtualdubmod. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/virtualdubmod.cfm Go to video menu, select Direct Steam Copy Save Avi.
