i realy need some help. i had a friend do a hard drive swap on my softmodded 1.6 from what he has told me everthing was running great on my box untell he shut it off and when he booted it back up error 6 came up does anyone have any idea on what i can do to fix this? please help
Dude a little search via google "xbox error 6" 1st link http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/6.htm Either your friend did a number on your HDD or he took it out off yours and put it in his...Or maybe, maybe he took one of the jumpers off and for some reason it doesn't want to work.First check thats its your HDD.If it is check if the cables are connected. Then check if the jumpers are in the HDD.ANd if the HDD ain't yours look for ur buddy and give him a good one.
its not the hard drive because we put the stock hard drive back on and i still get error 6 and the stock drive was working befor. he did the upgrade. the only thing that was done to the stock drive is that it was taken out of the box, and i checked the jumpers and there was nothing wrong there. so if anyone has any more ideas please let me know.
'Error 06': HDD Unlock Error. You can not unlock your HDD. There could be a few possible reasions why this is happing. 1) You're not useing the Stock HDD THAT CAME WITH YOUR XBOX™!! You can not just pick up a Stock XBOX™ HDD and expect it to work it'll have to be the same one that shiped with your XBOX™! 2) Check your Connections (IDE & Power), make sure that everything is tight and properly connected. Not mearly on the HDD itself, but, on the Mainboard aswell. 3) In your attempt in useing your Mad Skilz to 'Hotswap' your HDD in your attempt to install a Sotmod Hexplote. You caused a 'Short' on the HDD. In turn basicly in effect killing it. If 3) is indeed the case your going to have to bye a Modchip, workout which of the possible Eight XBOX™ versions (e.g. v1.0 to v1.6a or b), you have, and then download the appropriate Cracked Firmware, from #xbins. Or your friendly p2p Network. As you'll not be able to install a new HDD in your XBOX™ without then getting an 'Error 05': Can not Lock the HDD Error!
Your IDE Cable, (the gray one that is long and thin) may be screwed up, either that or your friend unlocked your stock hard drive.
