Error burning Dual-Layers w/ Recode --- Help Please!

Hi, first post. I've been lurking on the forums for a bit and tried searching the archives, but can't seem to come up with a solution. Still kind of a newbie at burning DVD's, so my "expertise" in this field is somewhat limited. Your help is very much appreciated!

I went through a full 25-disk pin of DL's without any problems, now recently almost every disk I try ends up an expensive coaster! I'm still able to burn single-layers with no problems. I'll still get the occasional dual-layer that completes successfully somehow. It looks like it burns through the first layer fine, and when it starts with the second, it claims there's a write error. Sometimes it wraps up the session and state's the burn was unsuccessful. Other times the whole thing freezes up and doesn't even let me eject the disc and a restart is necessary.

Yet still more errors burning Dual Layers. This is driving me nuts. Single layers still working fine. If anyone has a clue, I'd appreciate some feedback. If I could provide any more info, just let me know. Thanks!!!

 

i have used the same DL media as you have, the RitekD01s, mine are performing flawlessly so far...

i would suggest using dvd decrypter for dual layer media~ ISO-read--->ISO-write~ so far, at least for me, decrypter handles the layer break quite well and i have YET to make an expensive DL coaster~

the firmware NEEDs to be up to date, that is one of the big problems for your drive to recognize this fairly new media format...keep your burning @2.4x as you have, i'm with creaky on this one, update firmware and possibly use dvd decrypter as i mentioned above for burning onto a dvd9~

while i might not have arniebear's experience in DL, i probably have more than most im assuming you were going to call HIM for advice right? hehe, actually, i learned from arniebear myself in regards to dvd decrypter for DL media~ i have not looked back since~ i got about 50 under my belt now for DL media, about 30 of the Verbs DL (*grumble grumble* as you may have noticed in the media threads i got shot down 3 times in trying to purchase them, those bastards @bestbuy) and 20 of the Ritek Ridata w/ the RitekD01 coding, these are ALMOST as good as the Verbatims but very close~

anyways, i'm not much of a recode guy myself as i prefer using decrypter for DL, so, can't say i HAVE tried burning it w/ nero~ i initially started out using Shrink and setting the burn size bigger to accomodate the dvd9, but, i had problems there...that's when arniebear turned me to dvd decrypter~ handles layer break MUCH better~

Wow, thanks so much for the feedback everyone!!! I'll try the firmware update. I had used Decrypter previously, but not since this issue started, so I'll see if that'll "handle" the layer break better.

BTW, thanks for pointing out the SN mistake, I had edited it out from the top of the logfile, but didn't notice that it comes up again further down...oops!

Thanks again! I'll keep you guys posted on any progress, in case it might ever help somebody else out facing the same issue.

 

Well, another error.

I updated the firmware using the posted link. This one was decoded using Decrypter. Luckily, it didn't freeze everything up this time--it burned well into the second layer till about about 98% complete before logging a "write error." It generated the borders and reported an unsuccessful burn.

As far as I know why would you want to use Recode, you do not need to compress or change the file in anyway, all you want to do is do a straight copy, either use Nero Express or Burning Rom, Recode is not needed. But my recommendation is as suggested above use Decrypter in iso read then open MDS file and do iso write.

 

Ah, understand now! I'll try out those suggestions and let you know how it goes.

The one strange thing to me though is that I got through a whole spindle just fine, and then this started. Oh well...

Cr@p! Another coaster. Using DVD Shrink and burning done by Nero Express. Looks like it got through the first layer again with the write error as it switched to the second layer.

I tried using DVD Decryptor to do the write in "ISO write" mode, but couldn't figure it out. Guess I gotta do some homework. I WILL figure this out!

yes, this is definitely a LAYER BREAK issue w/ nero...while using nero burning rom/nero express as arniebear had stated earlier is a "better bet" than using recode all together; i have had MY success as suggested by arniebear initially to do EVERYTHING with dvd decrypter~

no need to use dvd shrink to "compress" or encode, use dvd decrypter for the ENTIRE process...from beginning to end...

my ONLY suggestion at this point would be to NOT use nero in any way/shape or form for the burning aspect of it~ use decrypter's OWN burning engine to do a straight forward ISO READ- ISO WRITE~ bam there it is~ good luck RossoC~

I have not had good luck using Nero for dl. With using Decrypter in iso mode you are backing up the exact image, with the exact layer break there is no question of where the disks breaks at. Decrypter is not placing it anywhere else. Plus it is an easy user friendly program. Mr LUK is back in a very scaled down way, you can read about his little program that is an extension of the burning part of Decrypter here.
