Does anyone know how to fix this? I had windows 2000 installed on this comp but when I tried to add an additional 250 maxtor hard drive it said this. After a bunch of experiments, check wire and stuff. I deleted the partition and created a new one but I found out the Windows 98 cd I had was an updrade one not an OEM one so I can't install it. Any way to get windows 2000 back or obtain a free iso of Windows 98. I have the key from the sticker thing but not the cd because my uncle gave me the comp.
All P2P programs have iso's of Windows. Older version might be hard to find but new versions of windows is very likely to be there. Don't any of your friends or people you know have a version of windows you can borrow? The majority of homes have at least one computer these days.
Well if you brought a new computer within the last four years. BUt anyways I need a cd of 98se or 2000.
I did a search for Bittorents you can find the files you need here. http://s2.isohunt.com/ Just search for windows 98 and select one that sounds reasonable. You'll need a bittorent program.
Hi, my friend gave me his cd for Windows Me but it doesn't have all the drivers like windows 2000 does. I finally got an iso for windows 2000 but when i try to install it, it tries to copy all the files to the hard drive and then it resets but then it says either "error loading operating system" or "missing operating system". I've even tried combinations like upgrading from me to 2000 but it still doesn't work. What I've noticed is it loads with the old versions of windows but not the newer nt windows. Any help?
do you want me back on as probably fairly easy to get all the drivers. what is the make & model# of the computer or motherboard?
Actually the only driver I really want is the video card drivers. The video card was made by Number Nine Corporation and is a 9FX Motion 531. I searched on driverguide.com and got drivers for it but its even older than the drivers already used in Windows Me which the screen resolution could only be 640 by 480 and the colors are horrible with it like 8 bit colors or something. But the drivers included with windows 2000 could make the screen resolution 1024 by 768 and has up to 32 bit colors. Are there any other alternatives like Linux if I can't install the NT Windows? I've tried Puppy Linux and the screen resolution and colors are great but i can't use it with my Actiontec USB/Ethernet modem because I don't have an ethernet port for this comp and there isn't support for usb modems with Puppy. This is my little sister's computer so any Linux is fine if u could recomend to me as long as it has some type of word, paint, and internet explorer. Thanks in advance for anyone replying.
try this link for nt version, bottom line, right hand side, s310308.exe http://www.filesearching.com/cgi-bin/s?q=s310308.exe&l=en
This is for the NT versions of Windows? Could u use nt files with older windows? Could I use the ones on top with the older windows? Also anyone know how I could install Windows NT and without the Error Loading Operating System messege?
Alrite I try it but it still doesn't work, because when i have to restart it and it goes back in it says the drivers don't work. I've even tried achieve.org to get nine.com which use to be the video card's manufactors and manage to get all the drivers avaible for wthe FX Motion 531 but it doesn't work. The best results I can get is using the Super VGA drivers already in Windows Me. It lets me use 800 by 600 but only with 16 colors but before it could use 256 colors and 16 bit too. Any other suggestions u guys have? Like how to install windows 2000 or xp so it doesn't say error loading operating system?
When you try to install Windows 2000, did you format the drive? Try that. I think it does not want to install because you had windows 2000 before and now with windows me, it still may have the Windows 2000 Boot files. Also, if w2k is still in your system try a repair installation, otherwise, boot the computer with the w2k install cd. When it shows your partitions make sure you format before installing. Do the full format, not the Quick format. Then try to install. If this does not work, then you can try a Windows XP quick boot floppy for windows 2000 and try to force load the OS. Make this disc while you still have Windows ME: http://1gighost.net/ohioman/xpquick.zip This may not work since it is Windows 2000 and not XP, but you don't know until you try.
Well when I try super VGA it lets me go to 800 by 600 but only 16 colors not 256 colors or 16 bit. I've formated the hdd serveral times and I've even zeroed the hdd a few times too so I sure there are no windows 2k boot files left from when it still worked. I'll try the floppy method and report back.
