Can someone help me to correct this problem?

I get the following message when I start or boot my computer:
    Update.exe. Unable to locate Component"
This application has failed to start because Services.dll was not found"

In msconfig I am showing only three(3) programs at the start up. They are AVG, Zone Alarm and WebrootSpysweeper. Any other suggestions that might help me resolve this problem?
    Thanks

Did a little check on google and found a site with the following info...

    services.dll (vbs.alphae worm) - Details

If your computer has the file 'services.dll' on it, your system may have been infected with a strain of the vbs.alphae worm.

services.dll is considered to be a security risk, not only because antivirus programs flag vbs.alphae worm as a virus, but also because a number of users have complained about its performance.

vbs.alphae worm is likely a virus and as such, presents a serious vulnerability which should be fixed immediately! Delaying the removal of services.dll may cause serious harm to your system and will likely cause a number of problems, such as slow performance, loss of data or leaking private information to websites.

    Hope that helps...Peace

Hey buddy, thanks for your help. I also looked up the same information but my virus check does not indicate any virus. The error message states that "this application has failed to start because Services.dll was not found" The first heading of the message reads" Update.exe. Unable to locate component. This tells me ( I think) that Services.dll is not in the system but is looking for it. How is that possible? I already checked msconfig but do not see any other program runnign but AVG, Zone Alarm and Webroot Spysweeper.

Do you know what program is trying to run 'update.exe'?

The only other things i can think of is...

Uninstall the program(s) trying to run 'update.exe' and reboot....or,

Choose a system restore point to a time before you started having this problem.....or,

Open notepad and copy and paste the following -

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\explorer\run]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.

Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

    Reboot.

Or, you could try booting to safe mode then running your anti-virus/spyware programs.

If that doesn't correct it, you may have to reformat, but only as a last resort.

    Hope that helps,
