Hi, Thought I'd post this in here. I was burning a DVD yesterday with DVD Decrypter and it was working fine, then, I went to burn another DVD, and I recieved the following I/O Error. I then tried burning a DVD with NERO and I recieved the following error message. Here is the full log from NERO. After wasting like 3-4 DVD-R's, I contacted Gateway support and they told me to try a different brand of DVD-R's, then if it doesn't work, let them know so they can send me a new DVD drive. I use Ridata (Ritek) branded DVD-R's and they have been working fine for the past few months now without any problems. This just happened yesterday. I searched around but couldn't find any information on how to fix this. Also, here is the info from NERO about my DVDRAM. Any help would be appreciated . I will try the different media and let you know what happens. Also, an important point. THE DVDRAM CAN STILL BURN CD's WITHOUT A PROBLEM Sorry for the bold and caps but some people might miss it. I'll try to get to this before creaky does! First off, Please edit out your serial number, it starts with 1A23 xxxx xxxx xxxxx etc. Someone can steal it. Check for a firmware on that burner. I'm not sure what brand name it is,so you may have to google for it. Go into device manager/under IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers and open up that tree. Right click/properties/advanced setting and make sure each controllers says dma or udma if available. Make sure they don't say: Pio Mode. Your primary controller is set on pio mode, uninstall that driver and re-boot pc. I'd try uninstalling that controller and rebooting. Windows xp should reconnect that driver and it should go to dma or udma mode.I'm not sure about a firmware update so you may want to hold off for that.We'll have to figure out why that controller went into pio mode. Nero shows your ridatas as Ritek-G04 and that's some pretty good media,maybe a bad batch? Did you change anything about your media lately like different batches/spindles? I go along with gateway on trying a different quality brand name of dash,after resetting your controller. That'll be a good start till creaky floats in.
The thing i saw was: this could be a firmware out of date issue, or you really could have a problem with the drive. I am not sure if this is your drive listed here, and you need to know for sure before doing a firmware update: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1459 and if it is the drive, they are up to A107 now and you have A105. Thats my 2 cents, or 2 pence as creaky would say. I am a novice at looking thru these logs. Oh, and as saugmon said,[bold]make sure you edit your original post to take out your serial number, and maybe even your name![/bold] Just click on the pencil and paper symbol next to your original post, and it will take you back to the edit post page. Some nefarious types out there like to steal your program when you publish your SN on a public forum such as this. I am sure creaky will find something else in this log, other than what saugmon saw. LMAO - i heard my name in vain, and you're learning well young padawans thart's an LG drive, A109 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1450 - you're gonna have to close down more programs prior to all burns - 4447MB (in my opinion) is too close to outer edge of discs, regardless of quality of discs; set target size to 4300MB in DVD Shrink's preferences
Thanks a lot for your help guys, but I worked through with the Gateway tech support agent and after updating firmware, trying a different brand of media, and since nothing worked, they just decided to replace my DVD RAM drive, so in a week I will just update my HD to 200 GB, my memory to 4 GB and by then my DVD drive will have arrived so I will install that as well. That looks like a major upgrade! I wish that support was that good with HP. Took 6 weeks for them to figure out a bad modem on my dads pc,which is similar to mine in my specs,when I told them it was a bad modem to begin with! LOL! Good Luck!
i'm ALL about the 4 gigs of memory~ that's what i have too and i NEVER seem to have a "memory issue", i don't usually have to close down ANYTHING to free up more memory LOL, major upgrade indeed~! nice~
My HP notebook long deceased, now makes a very good doorstop. @Creaky, You da man! My drive guess wasn't even close. And you pick those things out of these logs like it's second nature. I guess thats what happens when you wade thru 1000s of these logs. Nero seems to load up the logs with lots of stuff that's not so important, and buried in the middle of all that is a little piece of important information. It's doing a very good job of hiding from me. @Direct Glad you are getting things worked out. You probably will never have memory problems again with 4 Gig of memory.
@MaxBurn - lol. and - exactamundo, but at least in between all the padding there are nuggets of info, i think they're normally sufficient to get most ppl working again as the logs summarise a system real well.
lol your right... with 512 MB I only have problems sometimes when say I am burning a dvd, encoding something and playing a game at the same time, (like CCE takes up a lot of memory), I wonder what 4 GB feels like. Thanks for the help everyone Gateway is the best, if I just tell them I have a corrupted part they'll just send me a new one without even checking it. The only reason they checked the DVD RAM is because I told them to check because I didn't want to wait a week or so for the drive to be shipped from USA to Canada. Gateway will cover any part of your computer as long as you have warranty, so I just keep extending my warranty as soon as its about to expire.
