A cupla months ago I posted here about a commercial NTSC Region Free disc that played once on my standalone (Pioneer DV-454) then hung up every other time, and played stop-motion on my pc (Pioneer DVR-108).
The consensus was that it must be a faulty disc.
I recently got around to replacing it and guess what?
It played once on the player and hangs every subsequent try, and plays stop-motion on the pc.

That my standalone player can't handle NTSC is a strong possibility: it's several years old: but that it played each disc once and was then unable to do so is ... well, odd.
I have just updated the Pioneer 108 firmware to 120 (the most recent I could find) and it might just be my wishful thinking but does it now play in 3/4 second jumps instead of 1/2 second jumps? Probably not.
I'm not asking for a solution (unless anyone's got one): some thoughts abd opinios would be interesting.

WhooHoo! (anyone?) it plays with Video LAN.
Interesting point: the picture is fab except where there is fast movement, where it shows tiny pixelating.

I am now more intrigued but a lot happier.
