    Hi,
I've been using a 5100 model with a Seagate 120gb hard-drive for the last 10 months or so, with no problems at all, except:
Although I've used the hard-drive a load of times, recording, watching and deleting over the past months, I'm now suddenly faced with the following problem which came out of the blue:

First problem just sorted this minute: When I pressed record the picture on TV freezed as normal, with text showing "please wait, recording is starting". However, when the picture continued a few seconds later the recording then stopped. When I viewed the PVR menu it would show the file/TV program, but it wouldn't play it, indicating the file was empty. I took the advice of another on the forum and remedied it with the following solution:
Switch the Eurovox off completely, remove the hard-drive and wait about two or 3 minutes, switch the unit back on (with the hard-drive still out), let it go to a channel as normal, switch it off again and wait another 2 mins, then insert the hard-drive, switch back on and let it play as normal for 2 mins or so. Now try recording again. (Worked for me).

However, I'm still faced with this problem if someone could please help:
I can access the PVR menu ok and play about 4 current recordings with no problems, but there's 5 other/older recordings and their titles have all changed to the letter `A` (with 2 full-stops above it) and the red heart (lock) symbol beside each one. The system won't let me play any of these recordings, even when unlock them. When I try to delete any of these 5 (pressing the green button) I then get the message "are you sure you want to delete" I press `ok` then type in the 4 digit unlock code (0000). This takes the heart away (showing the file is now unlocked). When I press green again to delete the red heart flicks back and file remains there.
The same has happened for each one with the red heart (and letter `A`).

I've also unlocked each one first, takin the red heart away no problem, then tried to delete, but the red heart flicks back again. I then went into the PVR menu via the Main Menu (which shows a different layout), but the same problem persists.

It's frustrating that I can't view or even delete these 5 files, even though everything else is working ok now. I know the files contain the likes of extreme sports and music recorded off TV and I ad named them accordingly, but now they're all named "A" and basically locked into the unit.

I hope the drive doesn't need formatted to wipe these, considering I can still record ok and view other existing recordings.

If in the event the drive does require formatting (FAT32), I take it that I'll have to do by fitting the drive into a laptop?
    Can anyone please help?

    Many Thanks!!!!

Do a factory default and powerscan "including!!" deleting the hard drive recordings, I have seen this a few times and although you loose everything it will bring back the normal function of the PVR.

    Hi,
Thanks for your prompt reponse! Can you please confirm if I do the Factory Default and `powerscan` through the actual Eurovox menu/s?

I'm not concerned about losing all current recordings, but I'm hoping I can remedy the problem without having to install the Seagate hard-drive into a laptop, as I'm not 100% sure how I would format the drive safely and if it would affect the BIOS settings etc.

    Many Thanks!

    Yes through the Eurovox.

When you get to the factory default menu you will see an option "factory default including recordings" press ok on that.

Please disregard my last email / silly question!

I suppose the `factory default` & `powerscan` can only be done through the Eurvox anyhow.

Since taking the unit out of the box from new, approx a year ago, I've never had to update firmware or anything. It's run like a dream all this time and on a daily basis.

I just hope doing these actions above doesn't create new & further problems, but I guess it's the only way to solve the problem. The alternative is I leave these totally-locked recordings on and ignore them each time I go into the PVR menu, but then this would just annoy me each time I see them. I think I'll just bite the bullet and go for it!

I'll report back sometime soon - on how everything went.

    Cheers!

    Hi,
Sorry, our emails crossed with each other. You were too quick for me.

That's great advice mate, Thanks a million!!!

I'll let you know how I get on. I just need to watch a recorded film on the hard-drive which I've yet to see called "Hunger", then I'll go for it. (Heard good reports about it, although a bit disturbing).

    Cheers!
