I live in Birmingham and some of the channels are breaking up all the time and are now virtually unviewable where as other channels are crystal clear. I have had the box about 18 months and never updated any software as not needed to as I've had no problems with it except to change the code the odd few times. I don't think it's my connection as I said some channels are crystal so please if you can help let me know, Thanks.

Just frequencies drifting that's all, so just go to a Channel that you are having problems with and press the Info button twice and make a note of the Frequency. Now press menu and go across to User Installation and OK enter 0000 and use your Up/Down arrow key's to Highlight the affected Frequency and Press OK and a tick will appear on the left hand side, now Press the Blue Button to Manual Scan and your channels will return.

You really should update your box with the latest firmware though it is much better than what you are doing, and you cannot ask or discuss that C**** subject.

The manual scan isn't working. I've changed a couple of frequency's which have worked but others are a lot harder to get accurate. You wouldn't happen to know where I could get a list of frequency c---- for the west midlands area would you or am i not aloud to talk about those either :-0 sorry it's been a couple of years since i've been on this:)

Don't understand what you mean when you say that you have changed some Frequencies? totally not neccessary - if you mean C**** then I am sorry but that is not allowed at all on the forum >> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/662154

So all I can recommend that you do is to update your box with the latest firmware and then do a Factory Default on your correct Symbol rate and re-scan, that way you will get everything back and there would be no need to request. If you click on the link marked Eurovox at the bottom of post you will find an excellent guide courtesy of HiTeck, what you need and how to, even down to scanning.
