What are you using - a NULL MODEM lead on it's own or with a USB adaptor, if you are using an adaptor then go back to the thread as advised by MICAH and look closely at assigning the COMM port for your USB adaptor. And if you are using Windows Vista, then forget it and get to a PC with Win XP.

hi, what im using at the moment is a 9 pin female female cable, as far as i know this is a null port cable? i have this connected to my laptop with an adapter because the port there is a 15 pin port and im on windows xp

Then you are using an adaptor then - if it is not USB (which it does not seem to be) - then you would be advised to get a loan of a friends standalone PC with the 9 pin serial port on, and if it is USB then it needs to be assigned correctly or it won't be recognised, and the 9 pin lead has to be a NULL MODEM lead, or again it won't work, there are two and they are very similar, check here >>>>>>>>>

Exactly the same setup and method, also read Cetic's guide to assigning the USB adaptor, you can try it with the 15 pin - but I doubt, as far as I can see that is your problem.

Always do a re-set before you do a scan, and NO it will not affect the firmware you have installed.

hi malci, back again lol, cheers for all your help, one or two more problems though lol, nothing major....everything has been going grand however yesterday a few of the channels were black so i did a reset and scan, this time it only picked up seventy eight channels instead of the eighty five that i had all along(still have 33 radio) and out of the seventy eight there's maybe four or five that are black, have tried reset and scan a couple of times but no different, any ideas? c*****s....m**s

Look in radio and see if you can see your missing channels in there.
