I just put my computer together and I have installed all of the drivers that came with the motherboard cd. I have noticed that the audio does not work. I am running windows xp pro Sp3 and and I have checked my bios and is says hd audio is set to auto. I look in my device manager and it says that that there is a pci device not installed. Then I went back in the bios and disabled the hd audio and the pci device icon is gone. I would really love to have sound with my new computer so can anybody help.

Try un-installing all audio related drivers, also un-install you graphics card drivers. Then go to the website and download the motherboard drivers(not form the CD, they are older).

I recently had ATI driver mess up my sound so that's why I said to un-install Graphics drivers as well.

Yup, newegg don't have them yet, but NCIX stock them.
As for the onboard audio, EVGA's on-CD drivers are rubbish, I've experienced this before with someone else's PC I was helping them with. Try on the EVGA website and get the latest drivers from there.

im also having the above issues with my brand new EVGA 780i mobo. i have tried the advice given but am still getting the same problems... no difference...

w451208: how did u get on using the new drivers?

i uninstalled both the motherboard drivers and the audio drivers aswell as my graphics card, then rebooted and re-installed the new drivers... is there something that im missing out?

also im shocked that this issue isnt adressed with such an expensive motherboard... needless to say im gutted that after building the whole pc from brand spanking new parts :(

    please someone help!! lol

yea, when i bought my 680i, it too had a lot of problems and by the time they were fixed, the motherboard wasnt worth anything
I am never going to buy an Nvidia chipset board again, ever!

ive posted a question to the support staff just now... took me long enough to find it on their site...

i hope this boxes things off as im pissed off now... having to order additional things after ive just blew 1200 quid on a computer. seems odd that this issue isnt on the EVGA FAQ section... absolutely nothing about audio issues.

if this doesnt get sorted tho i think ill be reconsidering my "like" for evga things.

As a general rule I've stopped recommending EVGA products, not just for this, but they seem to be having quality control issues with their graphics cards as well.

I am having the exact same problem. However, i did have audio at one time, then it seems after i did some update with vista my audio was gone. During that time i also OC-ed my processor. So maybe it could be that i mistakenly shut something in the BIOS, but i doubt it since I've looked over it several times. I've also reinstalled XP back on my PC (much better than vista) but still didnt solve my problem.

SOLUTION: going to go by a new sound card.

oh my god, cant get audio to work, just finished putting her together...

i dont know what to do... yes on board sound in bios is enabled! everything is installed = nothing in device manager is acting up.

so now what... i have creative inspire 5.1 digital 5500 speakers which worked fine with my old pc which had creative soundcard in it, and no i dont want to put that old sound card in my new pc. i paid good money for "good" on board sound damnit.

guess ill install xp sp3 service pack and hope a miracle happens

Go to control panel - sounds and audio (just sound for vista) - check what the default playback device is.

control panel-sound,speech,audio devices-sound&audio devices = Realtek HD audio Output. which is my mobos onboard sound, in control panel i also have the Realtek HD sound effect manager, which indicates the software IS installed properly. "it are to be i unistalled adn re-installed twice" installed sp3 just now = no miracles.
HOWEVER i do have sound from my FRONT panel jack. got some headphones in there and they work fine. funny when i plug my speaker jack in there it still doesnt work thoe.
i have tweaked around in realtek sound manager. but theres only so much u can do in there.
also my speakers so work cause its also connected to dvd player and sounds great : ) just not with "Faketek LD low definition audio" :(
thank u for you're reply, id appreciate any other ideas.
currently trying to get in touch with evga, not easy 2 do in australia.

Hmm, well if the sound comes through the front ports but not the back and you've set up the audio panel properly, then the only thing I can think of is that the rear audio ports are faulty.

my apologise peoples. thought id been thorough with my diagnosis.."it was 5am, i finished building pc, i just wanted to play a maxed out crysis"
i plugged headphones in rear panel, it works fine.. just not my speaker plug, dunno how that breaks or stuffs up.. but... im gonna buy a long ass spdif cable and try use that instead. for some reason teh analog jack/cable in my 5.1 speaker system aint working, and moving teh furniture to follow teh cable to find fault seems not worth it. twas working before, should work now.. so...
thank u again for ur help.. ill let u know how i went with it... i wonder if teh other folks on this topic got theres to work...
conclusion.. EVGA aint so bad after all, so far everything is sweet as.
    ciao buddy, and thansk again

You can find replacement 3.5mm jack cables for very cheap, you may as well buy another.
