The following thread was closed by a moderator and I don't understand why.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/757602

The author was seeking the opinion of other members and appeared to follow all the forum rules. I realize that there may be other "car" threads already posted, but the question was very specific and in my opinion didn't directly relate to the other threads. Following this logic, we should probably close thousands of threads because the topic has already been posted if everyone would use the search feature.

Maybe I'm missing something, and thus the reason for this post. Can someone logically explain why this thread was closed and thousands of others that supposedly violate the same logic are left open?

"what is better" topics invite a flame war..

heres a nice bit of flaming for you right now..

gas guzzling yank vehicles are destroying our planet.. why don't you save yourself a heap of money.. and the planet .. and go buy some viagra instead XD

which is what I was going to post before the topic was correctly closed.

I don't see anything in the rules that says we can't ask for people's opinions. I suppose it can be added, but as of right now I still don't understand why the thread was closed.

Also, just because a topic may bring out the opinions of others, it doesn't give them free reign to flame.

    8. Don't reply with an off-topic comment/question -- instead start a new thread.

I'd prefer that we punish the flamers as opposed to closing threads for no reason.

The post was far too general...If the question was 'What has better acceleration, the Camaro or the Viper?' or 'What is better, the Viper ACR or the Viper GTS' it would be just fine...

He might as well have posted "What is better, Xbox360 or PS3" or "What is better, AMD or Intel"

I think somebody should close THIS thread before Alice gets hippy juice all over everybody.

Last time I checked, there was nothing in the forum rules against posting general questions. Besides, I think the original post was very general, but the poster made the question more specific with his/her second post by asking "which would you rather have". I suppose we could offer a poll where people could vote on such questions without having to worry about people flaming one car or the other, but that's not currently an option. If this is going to be the criteria for closing a thread (which I know wasn't the reason) then we need to close threads about which NDS card is better, which antivirus is better, which DVD ripping software is better, etc...

My original question remains unanswered. Can someone logically explain why this thread was closed and thousands of others that supposedly violate the same logic are left open?

because we are a tech site not a car site. what to talk about cars then post on a car site. i said there is a car thread already in existance so that is why i closed that thread.

So, basically we can post a thread in "All Other Topics" ("All the discussion that doesn't fit into other forums goes here.") as long as it has something to do with Tech? Maybe we need to rename it to "All Other Tech Topics". In my opinion (if we're still allowed to have an opinion) the thread wasn't in violation of any of the rules and therefore shouldn't have been closed. Do we need to "Report an offensive post" every time we come across a post that has a topic that has already been posted? I would think we would only need a few threads, of course each thread would be hundreds of pages. I'm glad I only try to help people and don't ask questions, because I'm sure all of my questions would get closed using this logic. Can't we stick to closing threads that violate the rules?

Can a moderator add the link to the car thread to the original post so it's clear to everyone? I'm sure I'm not the only intelligent person here that doesn't understand why the thread was closed.

Jesus, I think you should lawyer up and sue these mods. They're obviously conspiring against you and your car thread.

It's not my thread. I've asked a simple question as to why a thread was closed. I was told because there was another car thread that already existed. Now I'm simply asking if a link to that thread can be added to the post so everyone knows why it was closed and where they can go to ask their question. This is a common practice that's done all the time.

do a search for it as i have other things to do besides doing that for you. it is either in this forum or most likely in safety valve. if you want to complain then talk to site admin as we mods answer to them not you.

I've already done a search. I didn't find anything related to the topic being discussed. I found items about car radios, if that's what you're referring to. Either way, since the thread has been closed, I can't add a link to another thread, thus the reason I've asked a moderator to do so.

Apparently I've offended a few people by trying to help a few others. I thought the point of this forum was to help others by sharing our different areas of knowledge/experience. I know I've always tried to be helpful and answer as many questions as my time/knowledge will allow. I know the economy isn't great and people are grumpy, but lets not forget why these forums are here. If we're not suppose to help people, then let me know and I'll go elsewhere.
