I have a Memorex DVD burner model#32023288 which is a MRX-510L. When it is in the external case connected via USB, it started connecting only at USB 1.1. It has been connected via 2.0 for quite awhile. So I tried all of the fixes, DMA, new cable, etc. and finally opened the case and took the drive out and put it in my tower. (I like the external as it can sit on my desk and I don't have to crawl to put a disc in.) Anyways I rebooted the computer and it works like it used to. I know it is not the USB port as other devices work fine and I don't get the "This deveice can perform faster if you connect it to a 2.0 port" balloons. I have deduced that it is the IDE to USB adapter card in the external case that has gone bad. My question is, the external case also has 6P firewire ports. Could I connect it to a firewire card (I have to buy one) or would it be more than likely that the whole thing is fried?
I should also add that the old drive that I took out of the tower, I put in the external case and had the same problems. Read slowly, write slowly, showing connected at 1.1, etc. Thanks, Allen
