Hello. I noticed people were talking about external hard drives and I was thinking about buying one. Does any1 know any really good drives I can get?

Also, if you download a program and save it onto your external hard drive and acquire a virus, is the computer affected in any way? Thanks.

Seagate is a great drive as well... 5 yr warranty

Buy an internal IDE HD and put it in a Kingwin or Bytecc 3.5 or 5.25 inch enclosure. You'll save money going that route...

Yeah, Seagates are also very good drives. My 60GB internal HD is a Seagate.
I hate Western Digital drives, though. I had a WD drive once and the stupid thing was so noisy! It was so annoying.

Look around for some sales or clearances on external drives at local retail store eg. staples, comp usa, best buy, office depot. I picked up my 80 gb maxtor external hdd for $60 on clearance a couple months ago at staples.

Doesn't internal drive refer to inside the computer? I want something outside the computer.

I use a 120gig internal HD for my Dell inspirion laptop, I can connect the HD to my laptop via a EIDE to USB cable that I got off ebay for 9$.

Its cheaper and eaiser to buy an internal drive and connect it via a EIDE to USB cable.

I also connect an internal DVD writer to my laptop the same way.

yes internal refers to inside so external is outside so.......
an external hard drive is a hard drive in a shell with and a power suply that u connect to your computer with a USB cable allowing u to have a portable memory cache.

basicly, a giant data stick ^_^

You can go either way. Buy a hdd already in an enclosure or buy a hdd and enclosure seperately.

I use my external hdd exclusively for backup in case I aquire a virus or trojan and have to reformat. That way all my programs, software, and files are backed up and can easily be loaded back in.
