external harddrive

    im looking to buy one any one know which ones are best or are they all the same?are maxtor harddrives any use??its only for storing mp3 files on to free up my laptops hd

    There are vast differences between them.

    First, never buy maxtor. This is seagate's low-end brand, and the quality is rather poor. On the other hand, seagate makes some great drives, and they offer their own line of external drives.

    For a laptop, I would have to recomend the Seagate Freeagent Go.

    i have several western digital drives, (a couple 640 gigs i picked up on black friday a couple of years ago, and a 1TB that i found on clearance the other month). all of them have had no problems what-so-ever. they are plugged in almost all the time since they hold all my mp3s, movies, and tv shows, and they dont not get hot at all.
