    Hi,
I just bought a seagate 160gig hd. I am sharing it between windows 98 and mac os x 10.3.5. I was reading the manual and it sais that if u share it between the two computers it will become unstable using fat32. The hd comes standard with this. So i went into the disk utility and reformated it HFS+. The HFS+ partition is 40 gigs. Then I left 1eft 109 gigs of free space to make a fat32 partition. Then I took it to the windows 98 com and pluged the external hd in and it never detected it. I loaded the software that came bundled with the hd on the computer. The software has a thing on it to partition the free space to fat32, but when i click it I get an Illegal operation error. I have no way of making a fat32 partition without it. Is there any software out there for macintosh that will make a fat32 partition with HFS+.

Mac OS X is not compatible with FAT32 in any way, you need to format to NTFS. If you can scrap Windows 98 and get something Windows 2000 or XP.
