I have a Sony Handycam with Nightshot, but the range of the IR is too short for what I need. I would like to build a bank of LED's to provide external infrared light. The only led's I can find are totally invisible, but the led's on the camera are a faint red. Does anyone know if my camera will "see" the light from these led's??
If these LED's are infrared and not ultra-violent or transparent, yes your camera should be able to see the light. Ask the people where youre going to buy the LED's for infrared LED's and nothing more. Thats strange that the ones on the camrea are faint red, anyways give it a shot and tell me how it goes.
IR lamps are available in different wavelengths. With lower freq, for eg 715nM and 730nM, will give off a faint red glow. You probably need to find out what is the cut-off wavelength of these IR LEDs and compare it to the camcorder's IR requirement.
