I tried like hell to find this a while ago and never could and it hit me again today... and still couldnt find it so phuck it, I have to post.. (probably was right there the whole time and I'm just using the wrong choice of words)

If its possible I know one of you all know how to do it.. Basically I just want to extract my music from my XBOX, I still have most of the cd's I saved to it but they just dont seem to work anymore and alot are extremely valuable to me (extremely rare) local bands, and DJ's that have long since disappeared so its not like I can go buy them again for they were never for sale. It doesnt really matter to me what format just so long as I can play them while @ the pc... I have given that old XBOX to my stepdaughter so I cant exactly drag it in here if your wondering why I dont just hook it up to the pc. I appreciate any feedback even if its to tell me what a dumbass I am and how easy it might be... lol just so long as I know.

No, I should have included that piece of information... w/ that question I assume its not possible then w/o it being modded, right? We like to play games every now and then but were not big gamers... I think the next time I'm in the market I will either try to mod one myself or find one already modded.. I have read a little bit about it, but not much.

i dont believe its possible without it being modded here is a tutorial on softmodding if you want to its extremely easy if you follow the guide....http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/218495

Yes it is possible without soft modding or hard modding, you just have to hot swap, I did it and transfer all the music I had on the HHD to my pc every thing went clock work no harm done.

Now take in to consideration your speaking to someone who has never seen the internals of the xbox, so I have to ask, does the hard drive to XBOX connect the same way as a standard hard drive? Are there jumper settings on the XBOX hard drive as well? I guess I should try and look some of this up myself, I oppologize. I do want to ask, do you know what format the XBOX saves music in? I wasn't sure if they were in mp3 format or not. I appreciate the feedback... sorry for the redundant questions I guess I just like to know as much as possible before attempting such things.

Well before I soft mod, I use my Xbox to record my music from cd on to the HHD, and when I transfer the file to my computer they were in WAM format which I had no problem playing them on my computer, the music files were located in the partition 4 TDATA/fffe0000/music, I had a total of ten folder with a total of 66 songs with a diffrent numbers of song within each folder, I got on to my Xbox HHD by hot swapping and using a program call explorer 360 to transfer the files onto my computer HHD, windows explorer can't read the Xbox HHD, there is a quite a bit of information out there on = HOW TO = I hope you find what you looking for because sometime it can be confusing.

As for your question on the insides of the xbox, yes its essentially exactly the same as a pc. With a few minor differences (controller ports...etc.)

O I forgot to mention, the music files are not name there are numbered so you have to rename the music files that you have transfer from you Xbox.

In your Xbox your HHD is connect to the same IDE cable with your CD/DVD rom drive, your HHD jumper setting is set to cable select, if you planning on hot swapping here is a link that you can read for some info.
