hi all I recently bought an Iomega SuperDVD USB2 external writer, which I have connected to my 1.3ghz laptop via USB1 My problem is this, the drive is writing fine, but it just seems to take forever to write. I am using DVD-R media and understand that the maximum writing speed would be 8X, but to write approx 4gig of data is taking approximately 2 hours. A friend of mine reckons that using Nero it should only take about half an hour. Am I missing something? I cannot see that USB1 would be that slow to hold the drive up, are there any settings i can check?? Many thanks in advance - if I've missed any information please feel free to shout! Chris
The first sentence of your post, answers why it is slow. Connecting USB2 to USB1 is a killer. The 1.3ghz is low end, too, for video work.
hi all thankyou very much for the prompt replies! - so, if I was to get a USB2 PCMCIA card for the laptop it "should" speed the process up??? Thanks again Chris
Mortice, getting a USB2 card will speed it up somewhat, but it won't be the same speed as onboard USB2.
Brilliant! Many thanks for all your help - it is most appreciated! Actually, while I am posting here, although not technically in the correct forum, does anyone know of any freeware avi to DVD software that is available, for some reason TMPG doesn't seem to work on my machine! Thanks again Chris
