I've posted at the official fairuse forums but figured there was more traffic here.

i tried converting lord of the rings 1 and it only got through 1hr:33. i reopened the session file and saw that indeed it only ripped that far. looking at the PGC(?) selection screen prior to the indexing, the length showed the true 2hr:55(ish) duration of the film.

I'm about to restart from the beginning but before i start, any suggestions about why this happened and how i can prevent this?

btw, i have converted other shorter movies without this problem.

    thanks in advance.

Well it would Help if you told us what you were doing and what you were doing it with....

Like what software are you useing to Convert this Movie and are you Converting from a DVD or from a AVI file or From a DVD Ripped to your Hard Drive in VOB format...

Also what method are you useing?? Generally you are not going to be able to Fit 3 hours of Video on a DVD useing the Standard DVD Resolution without there being a LOT of Quality Loss as the Bitrate you would have to use to Put 3 Hours on a DVD is Too Low to Produce acceptable Quality especially when useing Consumer Level Encoders...

So Fill us in on what you are doing and then maybe someone can Help....

    Cheers

i'm using fairuse wizard 2 to rip from dvd to xvid. it rips into its own files (not vob/ifo/iso) and puts out an avi. its a onestep rip and convert app. i'm ripping for viewing on my palm t|x so its much lower resolution and size.

since posting, i've had some issues with shorter movies (spirited away) but have successfully converted others (donny brasco). i think its less of a software issue and more a disc/drive issue.

interestingly, i tried ripping with DVD decryptor to an ISO and it stalls at about the halfway point for both the LOTR and spirited away discs.

not knowing what else to do, i looked for a firmware update. i'm using a QSI SBW-242 dvd/cdrw drive and have looked at my laptop's manufacturer site (Acer) and cant find one.

seems like a weird situation. i wonder if i try ripping with another app (DVD shrink?) it would get through to the end. any suggestions would be great.

It actually sounds more like a Problem with the disks Like maybe they are Too scratched or damaged in some way as In the Over 1000 DVD"s I have Backed up I have never had a DVD not rip to my HD unless the DVD was Damaged or in a Few Cases I had problems with some Newer DVD"s that used Bad sector Copy Protections but "DVD Decryptor" or "DVD Fab Dectryptor" will usually take care of those disks.....

If it is From a Damaged or Scratched Disk you could try First Installing something like "AnyDVD" which will remove any Copy protections as soon as you put the disk in your Drive and then use a Data Recovery program Like "BadCopy Pro" to recover the data off of the DVD.....

    Good Luck

Could you be running into the 2GB file system limit for AVI's ? It does not tell you that there is a limit and will look like all is going well but wont complete the file conversion, I have had this problem before
