hi together, at 9 am we started to "rat" a dvd. now 5 hours later, it says about 50%. is it normal that it takes so long to "rat"? is there any way to fasten up the process? any tipps are appreciated. - MIMAMO
rat dvd is still in its very early stages, VERY early, i vowed not to use this program till i only heard good things about it... sure the concept behind the program is immensley relevant to many users on this site and i have to congratulate the creators for their effort BUT, i feel its has one too many flaws... but i suppose if people did not try it, the creators would not have any info to work with on improving it... PS: i suppose the only way to make it faster would be to allocate a higher priority in your cpu or upgrade your cpu or IF it is open-source to work on programming it yourself, otherwise you are just going to have to wait...
Yes it is normal. Did you even bother to read the read.me files and such? A normal compression tool (let's say DVD Shrink) will sqeeuze your DVD into some 4.3gb. It wil only transcode the video but NOT the audio. RatDVD will squeeze the same movie into a file about 1.5gb. It also transcodes the sound. No wonder it takes way longer... On my Pentium 3,2ghz HT with 1gb ram it takes about 3hrs depending on the quality settings I try. But I would say: forget ratdvd! At first I thought ratDVD was great, but after a few months I realize it will NEVER be good because they are doing things the wrong way; 1) propriatary compression format 2) no support for *any* other platform (OS X, Linux) Ergo: FORGET ratDVD. The concept is great, but the execution sucks. They need to get their sourcecode out there so it will be improved. But thats not gonna happen. Hence: RatDVD will die as a format...
I usually do movie only so depending on the length of the feature film it takes anywhere between 2-3 hours on my PC..
