I was wondering if anyone can advise me tools or software that can provide password protection or any other sort of protection on files and folders over a network as well as locally. I want files and folder to be protected locally so even if a person is using the computer that holds the files and folder they can't access it unless they know the password. At the same time I want to be able to access the files and folders over a network if I know password as well. When I say network I mean LAN and WLAN. So anyknow if such a software exist? All help greatly appreciated thanks.
users..groups and permissions. Big subject, are these networks windows? The best software for secure files, accounts, networks and servers is linux!
Yeah they are networked windows, It's 3 computers networked through Wireless Lan, the main computer downstairs has the largest hard drives so alot of things are held their and this is also connected to the router. All 3 computers (2 are laptops btw) have access to each other but is there no way to put security on some folders that when you try to open them it requires a password? and it should be the same if you try to open it locally? I've looked but I cannot find any software that does it, they only provide protection locally on folders but can't be unlocked through networks. If anyone knows a software that can do this I will be EXTREMELY grateful because i'm starting to believe that such software's don't even exist.
hmm I'm gonna take it that no such applications exist in windows then...seems like a hard thing to do for a home network
