I can't seem to get my computers file associtations for media files figured out... What I want is for all video files to be associated with Media Player Classic, and all audio files associated with Winamp. Somehow, Windows Media Player is thrown in there, and sometimes Winamp is handling a video file or MPC is playing an audio. On top of this, my shortcut icons for media files are all mixed up; an audio track will have the MPC icon, but will open with Winamp. Is there any manager I can use to sort this mess out?

Right Click on the file and go on the propperties and go to the top where it says "OPEN WITH" and change the program that it is assocated with with the one u want and that should fix the problem.

I know that's what I've been doing... But for some reason it keeps getting reset, and, anyways, that still doesn't fix my icon problem. No, I turned all the association agents off already :p

There's got to be some type of manager...

so you went to the settings in each program and selected the menu option that lets you select which files can or cannot be played by that particular program, right? in windows medis player i think that would be under the registry menu option.

Yeah I did that but i was able to find a manager to help me out, so now my associations are working correctly. My last problem is to fix the icons associated with my media files because those are mixed up. How would I do this?

the desktop icons? if so, you would put the unwanted icons in the recycle bin and then go to each programs exe. file in its program folder. right click on the exe. file then "send to" desktop. an icon will now be on your desktop. you can right click on the desktop icon to rename it if you like.

No, not desktop icons. Like MP3 icons on the MP3 files I've downloaded. They aren't shortcuts so I cant simply go to the properties and change the icon it is associated with. I don't feel like putting them in the recycle bin either :p
