    Hey all,
I was on the basic upc digital package @ 20 per month and broadband 20mb @ 42 per month with 4 extra boxes @8.50 each per month. My total bill was €98 a month, scandalous considering we only had 1 music channel and feck all else to be honest.

Was on the upc website today and saw they have new packages. So i switched to 15mb broadband @ 32 a month and upgraded to digital max at 34 a month, when i called to do it they halved the cost of our extra boxes to 4.25 a month.

So,to summarise, i now get all 3 ESPN channels,12 or 13 music channels,2 eurosport,fx,sci-fi,a few more discovery channels, tcm & mgm movies, loads of kids channels and others.

My bill is now €86 a month, a saving of 12 euro p/m and the only disadvantage is ive lost 5mb broadband speed (although 15mb is far more than i need).

Its about time they changed their packages coz i was on the verge of jumping ship to sky, also they now have 30mb broadband for 42 a month.

Before anyone asks i defo dont work for em lol. Have a look at my previous posts to see the trouble ive had with them. Just thought id share the info and hopefully some savings too.

Well when i first got it installed there was a charge (cant remember how much) but nothing for upgrading etc, they just did it over the phone.

As far as the tech support goes ive had good and bad experiences so im sure theres others out there with good/bad repots on them.

Nah theres a non direct debit charge that brings it up to €98.

Nope didnt have to install anything myself, a guy came out and did it all, installed new points in each of the rooms etc.

Oh and so far i havent noticed any difference in the broadband, didnt think i would to be honest, obviously there will be a difference if im downloading a big file but for web browsing 15mb speed is more than adequate.

if you are looking at thier site, the pack they are doing for sports, bband, phone and TV is actually very good, pains me to say it. If you are on Eircom 7 mb, that works out to be about 150 approx give or take each 2 months, half that and thats 75 per month for phone alone!

who knows, but if your looking for B/band, phone, TV etc, its seems to be the way to go. I was breaking it down like this,

on the eircom pack, Anytime with 7 meg bband, the basic cost of this without some mobile calls or international calls in 64 per month, 34 per month for the basic upc max pack, thats 98 notes with out the added cost of mob or int calls, now the Fibre Pack they are doing

    h ttp://www.upc.ie/deals/new_customers/fibreultimate/

Thats ESPN and Sky sports for 2 months free! all local, national and your int calls + 15 meg bband, HD Chans all for 95 per month, which is not bad at all, worth looking at

Kills me to say it but the offers from U*C are really good, and about fooking time too. Just been on their site and ordered from them, free ESPN and SLY SPORTS free for 2 months, not bad at all.

Leave all the cost aside has anyone stopped to think that putting all your eggs in one basket, ie if you cable goes it all goes phone and internet.
Thats the main problem i has with UPC .
Plus and I said this before you should be able to just get a kids package for there bedrooms having to pay for all other channels is just daft when the kids only watch cartoons

who hasnt a mobile with free calls to other networks on it? The service from eircom is muck, constantly turning the router on and off, signal dropping on wireless all the time, aside from that, the price far outweighs whats currently on offer, I would rathur suffer a small bit of downtime personally than putting up with eircoms over priced service for crap speeds and Skys prices for TV, yes there may be more chans on Sky, but how many do people actually watch!

Think yer splitting hairs on the kids chans, if you pay a basic sub from Sky or upc and the kids chans are part of this, dont see your issue. your looking for a dedicated pack just for kids chans cause they dont watch other chans?

Like others I've surrendered to N*L.

Digital HD+ box on the way.
Their tech dept couldn't confirm if I can integrate my Panasonic HDD DVD recorder into the set up. Any thoughts on this?

NTL like Sky uses HDCP on the HD boxes, so you wont be able to record in HD, but recording onto DVD with a scart cable should be no problem, there is no way to encrypt a scart cable.

Although I have no idea why you would get a HD box only to record low quality onto a external recorder.
