    Hi
I just installed a firewire card in my computer. I have been using USB to transfer my digital video to my PC. Now I wanted to try fire wire. I installed the card, connected to the digital cam, then tried to access it. But it says camcorder not found. I can see it when I connect via USB. Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

I wanted to add that I have Windows XP SP2.
    My camcorder is JVC GR-D200US.
The box of my firewire card says IEEE 1394 VIA 3 + 1 Ports Controller card. It has three ports on the back. Maybe I did something wrong with the installation? I installed it like we do any other PCI cards. Is there a driver for the IEEE card? I didn't get a CD with it. How do I check it through device manager?

Thank you. The article says after the windows update, the performance is greatly decreased. I cannot even see my camcorder through the PC. I am going to try it anyway. Hope it works for me too.

OK I installed the update given by microsoft, and restarted the computer. Still cannot see the camcorder. I am trying to do the registry editing as explained in the above article. I cannot find 1394_hc_hw_id under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI

What should I do? Please let me know. Thanks a lot.

is it not near the top or bottom of your device manager? is there an exclamation mark or unknown device in device manager? can you try the card in another computer to see what happens.

There is nothing related to this in the device manager. No exclamation mark. :( I will try it on another computer. Any other suggestions?

If you don't even see the IEEE1394 in the device manager, either the card is defect, you did not put it firm enough in the slot or the PCI slot itself is not connected properly...

Thank you so much TPFKAS & ddp
Today I opened the PC again. Yes, it was not firm enough in the PCI slot. I fixed it, and its working now.
    Thanks a lot.
