I just bought a Sony DCR-TRV280 Digital 8 camcorder. I want to put the video on a dvd. So I know I have to get a firewire card and a cable. My question is the manual tells me to get a 4-pin-to-4-pin cable. If I buy a Firewire card with a 6 pin connection will a 6-pin-to-4-pin work or do I have to find a firewire card that has a 4 pin connection?
    Thanks

You are correct. I recently purchased a Canon zr300 which I love but it didn't even come with a firewire cable! Only USB for snap shots from the memory card.

Anyway, I have a laptop with a 4-pin connection just like the camcorder's. So even though I had a pair of 4-pin-to6-pin cables, I still had to track down and purchase a 4-to-4 cable online.

Basically it doesn't matter about the cable's pin connection counts so much as that you get a cable that matches your camcorder at one end and your computer/card at the other.

Good luck, this DV stuff is fun. (My first time with it).
