After my last thread about burning problem with newer DVD's i looked at some old threads and alot of comment about updating firmware. I downloaded http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-1633S which is the DVD burner i own and now when i try to burn a DVD i get an Media Error on E:\ . It seems to have messed it up more than it helped.

    I tried downloading
    KS0B - patched - crossflashing (for 1673S, etc.)
    KS0B - patched - crossflashing - fast burn FBD/FBDX (for 1673S, etc.)
    KC4B - patched - improved +/-R burn quality (for 1673S, 1693S, Sony 800A, etc.)

And everything went fine. I rebooted the system and still get media errors on DVD drive. Can someone please help me fix this problem.

9-30 (updated) I thought this problem was fixed since i can now Burn DVD'S. But everytime i put a CD in the drive it wont read it unless its a DVD-RW and Blank. I have tried DVD-R and everything. I cant even read a DVD-RW that i just burned to. Its like the CD drive wont read anything with data on it. It wont let me erase DVD-RW or anything. I always get a Media Error on drive E: I dont know what to do and im stuck here. Ive got about 10 new torrent movie downloads and cant burn them to any of my DVD-R's. Any feedback would help please.
    Thanks

Try flashing back to the stock version for your drive.

Ya i tried that as well. Still the same thing. It will only read Verbatim DVD-RW. It wont read anything else. Ive searched all the forums i could and this seems to be a big issue with this DVD-rom. But most people have luck with just the new firmware. Ive tried updating it and still nothing.

Not sure but you said that you had the SOHW-1633s but the firmware that you used was for the 1673s or the 1693s. If you flashed to a different generation firmware, that can mess up your drive. Did you reflash to the stock 1693s or the 1633s? Or was I wrong that you had the 1633s in the first place?

That is very strange. I would say to make sure that your dma is still on for the drive but it still should be reading disks fine even if it was off. Sorry I couldn't help. Hopefully you will find someone with the same drive who can help better.
