So If You Update your firmware to a region free firmware lets say by the dangerous brothers, i no longer need anydvd for copying copy protected movies that i have purchased? if i still need anydvd after i update to a region free firmware then what is the sole purpose of haveing a region free dvd drive what does it do?
Hi killa711 Region free is only one thing AnyDVD does. It also removes all the copy protections like Ripguard and ARccOS. And then there's the Sony Rootkit removal too. Having a region free drive is good to play dvd's from other regions w/o having to run AnyDVD in the background.
quote oh so.. still confused can i burn copy wright dvds now without AnyDVD? no this is what anydvd can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New: Added "AnyDVD Ripper". This little tool repairs defective DVDs while copying them to your harddisk. It can be started from the menu of the AnyDVD fox icon. It can be started as a stand alone application from the start menu as well, so it can be used even if AnyDVD is not registered and the trial period has expired. It is identical to FixVTS (http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/) but instead of fixing problems "in place" it copies the files to your harddisk directly from the source DVD. It fixes the problems while the files are copied. Some DVDs which have severe mastering defects e.g., AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive, allowing you then to backup the movie using a DVD backup tool such as CloneDVD and CloneDVD mobile. You can also remove the RPC region code, thereby making the movie region free and viewable on any DVD player and with any DVD player software. AnyDVD is capable of removing unwanted movie features, including subtitles and prohibition messages such as copyright and FBI warnings. It also allows you to launch an external application whenever you insert or remove a disc, or prevent 'PC-friendly' software from automatically launching when you insert a video DVD. Decryption is not all that AnyDVD offers. You can control the drive speed of your DVD drive, allowing you to reduce the noise level when watching movies on your PC. You can even adjust the display frequency of your monitor for both NTSC and PAL displays. But AnyDVD doesn't just stop at DVDs. It also decrypts protected audio CDs to allow you to copy them. Features * Works automatically in the background * Removes encryption (CSS) and region code (RPC) from DVDs * Removes analogue copy protection (Macrovision) * Removes features such as forced subtitles and warnings * Decrypts without the need to save the data onto your hard-disk * Decrypts 'on the fly' * Prevents automatic launching of 'PC-friendly' software on video DVDs * Allows adjustment of your monitor refresh rate for both NTSC and PAL monitors * Allows execution of external programs on disc insertion and removal * Allows speed control of your DVD drives * Compatible with all DVD media * Works with all DVD-drives, regardless of region code * Works with all DVD copying, such as CloneDVD, and all DVD player software * Works transparently for the operating system: DVDs can be shared over the network and copied with the command prompt or with Windows Explorer, etc. * Proven to be stable and fast and does not require an ASPI driver * Features AnyCDDA: play, copy and rip protected audio CDs
Hi, killa711. All this talk of regionfree is misleading. Most drives are sold as RPC2 & as such need to be assigned a region. Add to this the fact that there's a limit to the number of changes to the region that can be made. RPC1 has no requirement for region selection. This means that the region is not "seen" by the drive. Therefore no need for selection. The responsibility for this if you like is passed on. However in PC terms there are or could be two more areas to cover before any region DVDs can be played. First OS often has a region aware aspect. Even if this is bypassed then the player software will still see the region. A program such as AnyDVD means that not only does your drive not "see" the region. Your software whether OS or player based does not see the region. Hence the term regionfree. All RPC1 allows is the ability to play DVDs from any region. There maybe a reason why someone might want to play a DVD with programs such as AnyDVD disabled. To copy, you need a program that removes copy protection. As already covered by ireland AnyDVD will do this & more. For further info on AnyDVD go here. http://www.slysoft.com/anydvd.html
oh yea see i thought makein the drive region free would remove the protection on the dvd this is where i was getting confused.
