Okay, I have a LG GSA-4167B and want to update the Firmware (it was suggested I do this because of burning problems that I am having). How do I actually do this? Also, I read elsewhere on here that you have to be careful when doing this because you can damage the burner if it's not the correct update. Is this something that I should be able to do myself safely?
use imgburn, tools/drive/check for firmware updates 99% of the time an update is ok, things like a powercut and kill it.
The main concern should be that the update not be interrupted by power outage, reboot, or anything else. So you may want to exit all programs before doing so. As long as doing it your self let some one provide the proper update for you(the site seems down atm), and yes you should be able to do it your self. The process is very simple, look around the site in the guides section or use google to find a tutorial.
As a side note Taiyo Yuden 8X -R's are often recommended. Good discs that are also ideal for those who don't want to update their firmware.
