Hi all as you can see im new to the forums here, and hope to contribute alot. i have ripped apart and fixed 12 xbox 360's with the 3 rod error. but im having a little troubble fixing a regular xbox that has the xmas light error, or at least thats what i think it is. I turn on the xbox and 3 seconds later when the hard drive makes its standard power on noises the red and green lights alternate. by the way this is a 1.0 xbox and has no code in the top left hand side of the tv. now I see you have problems with begging newbies just to set your fears aside i am not a noob i think. lol when i first got the xbox last week it had the error so i opened it cleaned it out, cleaned the cdrom, checked the cable connections, looked the motherboard over for obvious burns or any damage and there was none. so i started surfing found out that there is verying debate as to what the problem truly is. so i thought it might be the hard drive sence it made very very little noise except when the light would come on the hard drive would click. i ripped it out and set it somewhere, then looked up how to use a normal hard drive as an xbox one. i followed the guide to build the eeprom reader to my supprize it worked i have my eeprom backed up, and the lock code to boot, so i have tryed many times to use xboxhdm_v1.9 to make this drive work, and used diffrent peoples xbox c drives even the standard one. nothing has worked and i dont think the xbox is reconizing the hard drive correctly. because now insted of the lights flashing after 3-5 seconds its more like 2. ive ran out of ideas, i thought it might be the lock code, so i retried my reader got the same codes.. unlocked and relocked this hd many times using all the methods i could find. the bigger problem is my neice dropped the old hd when she was walking down the stairs, "dont ask" so now i have no idea if i could have salvaged it. any tips or ideas are very welcome ive been working on this for a week and am going a lil nutz. Thankx
New developments well i bought a duo x2 gs chip and installed it flawlessly it seemed to be going good, i tryed to flash bank 1's bios of the chip with x2_4975_256k_.rar after converting it to 512k using a cd-r but it would not work. so i skipped to using the network install, that worked flawlessly now i have bank 0 cromwell and bank 1 as 4975 bios, now i receive error 9 using any of the 4 hard drives i have. i have booted to the cromwell bios and noticed that most hard drives have the fatx but no partition table in the information section. so im not shure if these means that the xboxhdm did not do its job or my 4 hard drives are screwed? i did try to lock and not lock the hard drives. nothing helped. also when i try to make a boot cd when using bank 1 it will not boot. it just goes to error 9, and i get one more step to wanting to drop kick this thing. lol in case i did not mention last time i have an xbox 1.0 and i do have my hard drive lock key. Please anyone give me some assistance im very lost.
Well to make a very pain full week come to an end i went to a junk shop and picked up a fully working 1.2V xbox, by the way, the onboard ide was fryed. any one with error 9 and has tryed many diffrent hard drives. just cut your losses like i did. Laters Woody
Yup.. that's usually what error9 is about. Failed ide controller, though for info it can also be caused by a failed philips dvd drive.
