    Hi all! New to the forums but have read alot from here for support. Anyways, I recently bought a NEC DVD/CD burner with the Nero 6 OEM software. It burned successfully the first handful of times whether it was a CD or DVD. Now it won't burn anything without getting a fixation error or a 'couldn't perform Disc-at-Once' and cancels the burn. I've read through the forums and tried various fixes to no avail. I recently reinstalled Nero but it still a no go. A memory issue? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there,

    Have you tried a slower burn, like 16x ?

    I own a NEC-3550a and it's smooth sailing all the way !

    CD, DVD etc...

    Is this drive installed internaly ?

    It's not seeing your ATAPI.SYS driver.

    Usually atapi.sys is loaded with internal IDE burners...

    Are you having these issues with any brand of CD ?
    Also having problems with DVD medias ?

    Hey thanks for the quick reply! I lowered the speed to 32x and it seemed to burn fine.... success!
    The drive is installed internally, yes.

    I am using Imation CD-R's (1x-52x) I tried this media on my other drive multiple times and they burned fine without any errors Thats why I am worried its a hardware issue or a missing file like you mentioned above.

    DVD burns are fine so far..no issues yet.

    "Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ? "

    How can this issue be resolved? Thanks again!

    Hi there,

    I think, it's because you are not using Genuine Microsoft IDE drivers I think...

    Someone, comments on why atapi.sys doesn't load ?

    Maybe you have nVidia, or a VIA Motherboard and it uses their own drivers.

    But hey, if it burns I would not worry !

    Thanks a million cougar! Yea, its burning fine but for some reason it won't complete the burn at a high speed. I'll have to check what mobo is in this PC.

    Anyone have any thought son the atapi issue?

    Thanks again cougar!

    Hi again,

    I had a friend who was all happy to tell me he burned some CD-R at 52x.

    I told him I didn't care, because burning at 52x probably takes the same amount of time than to burn at 24x.

    I never burn above 16x.

    I prooved it to my friend.

    Burning at 52x, it's so quick, sometimes the burner has to STOP and wait for buffer to fill up.

    At 16x or 24x, the burn is more constent.

    XXX = burn
    ... = wait for the buffer to fill

    52x = XXXXXX......XXXXXXX.......XXXXXXX......XXXXXXX....XXXX
    24x = XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX...XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    It was as quick to burn at 24x than at 52x, at least on his PC and the test we did !

    My 2 cents...

    Good to know, Thanks...I wish I could set Nero to burn at 16 or 32x by default I have to switch from 48x to 32x every burn. Maybe there is a way it can be done...but I don't know.
