fixing basically dead computer and need much help

    hello im fixing an computer hp pavillion(somebody made me throw away case so i dont know which model it is)made between 2000-2004. i need a new harddrive i know this much i tried to switch my hp harddrives no luck it has windows xp (que dramatic music) home edition on it every thing works but harddrive ive tried reconfigureing harddrive in bios still no luck tried making a floppy disk the primary master still no luck tried making cd and dvd the primary master by the way my computer freezes up about 1-2 minutes on trying 2 install xp pro in it recovery disks no work say no emulators found+ message when it halfway there says disk boot failure
    also why does it freeze up so easily could it be my fan over ther intel pentium 4 processor? now here is a mind boggeler i opened up my harddrive only after i heard this when i shut down schrreeeechhhh i looked in the harddrive there were scratch marks everywhere+peices of the harddrive inside the case. also i cant do recovery cant even get into logon screen plz help asap

    Try reforamting and starting from scratch if the Hard Drive does not respond its totally dead and u need to replace it...

    So i would suggest a clean start...

    If you have the backups of your OS CD.

    scrap the hd as is now garbage. is the cpu fan working?? can't make the floppy master as it is not an ide device. reseat the motherboard ram. is the psu good??

    ok ty psu good power fans working when they dont my system shuts down auto

    do you have a spare hd to see if can load windows on as old hd is scrapped. check to make certain cpu heatsink fan assembly is seated properly to the motherboard with the fan spinning easily & heatsink clean of dust.
