Ok, this is my first Xbox mod-chip install. I have modded PS2's in the past. Here's my problem.

I installed a DuoX 2 chip into an Xbox. It was preflashed with Cromwell 3.0.3 when I got it. I made a bios disk and loaded it. The Xbox shut down juts like the tutorial said. But now on power up, I get the Flash screen again. Not the Xbox with Xecuter ROX MY BOX screen.

What did I do wrong and how do I fix it?

i dont have a Duox chip but Hold the power button and see if it boots the chip.....where did you get the bios from and what bios did you flash to it and what version is your xbox?

This is the flash tutorial from there site....
    From there site http://www.duomodchip.com/english/install.htm#4
DuoX 2 GS has 2 boot modes.

    - DuoX 2 GS Enabled
    - DuoX 2 GS Disabled.

It is assumed that your machine is in the Power Off mode, ie machine is not switched on

    Memory Banks

    Bank 0
    [IMG]
Bank 0 contains the latest Cromwell bios. To flash it we would usually recommend the Eurasia generic pro flash disc. And please note that you will need a 512KB bios (ie 2 X 256KB of the same bios since most bios are only 256KB)

    1.6 -1.6b machines will need the m8+ 1.6 bios.

1.0-1.5 machines can use either the m8+ bios (non 1.6) or the Xecuter 4983 bios.

Or you should be able to use this bios for running xbox linux.

Further details regarding linux and xbox in general can be found at www.xbox-scene.com and at www.xbox-linux.org

    Bank 1
    [IMG]

Bank 1 contains the latest FlashBios (3.03-1). Please note that you will need a 512KB bios (ie 2 X 256KB of the same bios since most bios are only 256KB)

    1.6 -1.6b machines will need the m8+ 1.6 bios.

1.0-1.5 machines can use either the m8+ bios (non 1.6) or the Xecuter 4983 bios.

FlashBios tutorial can be found at the following website.

    http://www.teamxecuter.com/flashbios/

    How to use FlashBIOS:

Step 1 - Creating the Bios CD:

    - Ensure that the bios file you wish to use of an appropriate size for your modchip. ( 512KB in this case)

    - Make a copy of the bios file you wish to use and rename this copy to BIOS.BIN .

    - Select a CD or DVD media compatible with your XBox's DVD-Rom. (Most CDRW will work and most DVD-R will work. If you have a Samsung Drive then some CD-R will work)

    - Burn the BIOS.BIN file onto a CD. (For Nero select the following settings, No Multisession, ISO Level 1, Format Mode 1, ISO 9660, Deselect Joliet, Finalize CD, Disc-At-Once)

    - You should add a dummy file to the CD to ensure it is read properly by the XBOX. We have enclosed a dummy file creator with this release. We recommend 100MB.

Step 2 - Flashing with FlashBIOS (Cromwell):

    - Turn your XBox console ON, when the DVD-Rom tray ejects please insert your BIOS.BIN CD and close the tray.

    - When the flashing procedure is complete the XBox will shut down.

    OK, Xbox version is 1.4
I have flashed the bank 1 with the 512 bios from flashfxp. Burned a disk with a 100MB dummy and the 512 bios.bin The screen came up with the bios updating screen the xbox turned off....like the tutorial said. When I went to power it back on....the xbox tries to boot three times and on the 3rd time i get the christmas lights.

    What did I do wrong?

I will try to hold the power button and see if it boots.....no luck.

Been doing some more reading on troubleshooting......

I need to make a Flash disk, a Bios disk, and a Dashboard disk in order for the xbox to work correctly. Is this right?

Also....all solder points are A-O-K. I am an experienced electronics tech. This is just my first Xbox mod. I personally don't own and Xbox which is why I am not familiar with all the modding requirements. Thanks to all who reply to this thread! I do appreciate it!

Yes I used the 4983 Bios.bin . It looked like it loaded it fine. The machine shut itself down but now wont boot up...FRAGing like a mofo!

How can I fix bank 1 or get it back to flash 3.0.3?

I took the chip out and the box boots normally. I read about booting the xbox 20 or more times to get it to work? What is that all about? What else can I try?

    OK, here's another oddity.

When I boot the bank 0, I get the Linux Cromwell 2.32 screen. Now to flash this, I am using the eurasia flash disk I got from xbins. I boot the XBOX with the disk in the drive. I still get the Linux Cromwell 2.32 screen, with the two icons below it to choose from dvd or etherboot. When I choose DVD, the tray opens and it reads, "Please insert cd and press A". When I do that, nothing happens. the screen remains "Please insert cd and press A"

Is it possible I FUBARed the chip? I have ordered another chip DuoX 2 white with Linux Cromwell. Hopefully I can salvage this chip and save the new one for another mod.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Turns out I had a bad mod chip. I bought a new one, loaded new bios, installed Slayer's 2.6 AutoInstaller, burned game ISOs. Everything is hunky-dory!
