My son built a pc and has been having problems with it not detecting the graphics card.So in his wisdom he trawled the net and read that if he flashed the bios from the mobo site it could sort his problem out.So without asking anyone else he did it and now the screen is just black, even the onboard graphics aren't working.Does this mean that he has permanently damaged the motherboard or is there a way back from this catastrophe.

    Any Help Always Appreciated

Did the motherboard come with a support disk?
Check the user guide that came with the board then start Googling using 'nameofmotherboard + bios corrupted'.

dang, im not sure. sometimes usb sticks will load but you would have to check the bios manual to see for the board, also a functioning (dont know abt your case) bios requires that the device be in an access list.

edit: found that the board supports M-Flash. heres what it says:

Compared to common mainboard which need extra BIOS chips, MSI’s M-Flash has a double advantage which doesn’t need extra components and secondly, all your BIOS data will be saved in the USB drive. The stored data does not only have backup and upgrade function, moreover it can also be seen as a portable BIOS chip which is actually able to boot up your PC.

    Features
    - Backup/Restore Your BIOS to/from Any USB Flash Disk
    - Avoid Unnecessary Repair Due to Accident Failures During The Upgrading Process
    - Earn more BIOS Lifespan by Reducing Unnecessary Rewriting Process

The problem is bigger than i thought cant boot from floppy...dont have one...dvd not responding neither is the keyboard or mouse so no way i can think of to actually flash the bios again.I Think the mobo is kaput unless someone has some other ideas?

    Thx Again

How about you trying to take the led(cover of PC at side) off and take the CMOS off? Either that or RAM is destroyed... I dont know a lot about Flash and stuff but it's basically CMOS? Also you should take PSU off so it would be reset...(Im 13 and i dont know a lot of stuff because i touch BIOS and make mistake and i just take CMOS off and it solved problem...) If flashing BIOS is a problem(Which cant be solved) than replacing the RAM or some other thing is the only choice otherwise it's best if you also look on youtube for help? I also found a similar problem you can do that may help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tEr_souZy0&feature=related Flashing is kinda like Updating and is FAILED... It just my guess to helping you!

i had this problem with my Gateway DX4831, his bios didn't flash correctly.

    are his BIOS AMI?

i fixed my AMI BIOS from a bad flash before.

if so, tell your son to put the BIOS on an sd card. that was formatted to Fat32, and have nothing else on the card.

name the bios AMIBOOT.ROM (EXACTLY Like that, capitalised and everything.)

putthe sd card in a sd card reader, preferably a built in sd card reader.

tell him to turn on his computer, and leave it alone for about a half hour. (mine took 15-20 minutes but you never know how long it will take.)

his computer will reboot OR say AMI logo and to hit F2 (mine said F2 his might say something different.) and to click which ever key it says to click.

    set your bios settings.

    reboot.

your computer is back from the dead!
