My Xbox 1.4v has a 120gb hard drive and has X-ecuter 2.2 Pro installed correctly by my friend. It was flashed with bios 4979. It work for few days, then one day the Xbox would become unstable..the xbox would sometime boot up with exov then sometime wont boot at all. So some one said that since it had 120gb hd it needed to be flashed with bios 4979.06 instead. So I try to reflash it with that but in the middle of the flash my Xbox automatically shuts off at around 4 minutes before the flash was completed. Now we are having trouble flashing after that. Does anyone know why the Xbox would automatically shut off? Does it have a timer? Or is my PC just slow in flashing with the new bios. Is my chip now messup because it didnt finish flashing? Now when powering up it just flash green on then off then on then off red. We check the LPC & d0 points and it looks good. What could be the problem... please help.

Rebooting whilst a BIOS is flashing can be real bad for the chip...Can you start the xbox okay with the mod chip removed/disconnected? If so then you may just need a new mod chip...Hope this helps...

    Thanks for your reply.

I try to reflash with the new bios and it keeps timing out. But why did the xbox shutt off during flash? Does it have a timer? I even took it to my friends house to since his PC is newer and it dont even see the mod chip to try to flash... dont know whats that about.

I havent took it off the board yet to see if the xbox works... I will have to try that next.

Don't use the 4979 BIOS, it's no good. I had problems with this one too. Use the Evox M7 instead, this one worked fine for me. You do know that you need to create a CD with the BIOS.BIN file. Get some good tutorials. I think you are probably okay, just need to research a bit more...Get evoX Dash and tutorial...Hope this helps...

I not real formiler with the pro chip or the programer but you should be able to save the bios on the chip to your pc open it with xbtool and it will tell you the version of the bios if the progamer gets a good 4979 bios then the chip bis prob flashed corect I use 4979.06 and 4977 on my x2 2.2 lite the 2.3 lite didn't take the 4977. Does the the xbdash work? I rember something about waitingf for the red light then hitting the A button but I'n not sure it aplys here

We did use the PC to check it but the xbtool didnt even see the chip to even check the bios. So not sure why it dont see the chip cus all the soldering points are good. We will have to try to take out the chip to see if my orginal Xbox will work. But the problem is I think my orginal HD is missing some files for it to even work. Does anyone know where I can find these files to put back on to my orignal HD?

xbtool does not read chips it reads files if your programer is working you should be able to write the bios that's on the chip to a file it does not take as long to read a bios as it does to write. I'm sure there's a way to turn off your 2.2 pro you should not have to remove it to boot ms-bios. If evox stil boots sometimes put the app flashx on it and put the 4979.06 bios and any other bios you would like to try in a e\bios folder 256kb or 512mb will work it does not matter what you call the file. only flash 2 banks at a time you can setup the chip to boot off different banks with switches

the xbtool has to see the chip in order to read the bios or reflash. We try to turn off the chip but my orginal xbox wont boot cus I have the 120gb hard drive and I dont think I have the orginal bios on it. Do you think a bad D0 would cus the chip not to work?

    Thanks again

If the large hd is not locked or is missing files msbios should go to the xbox needs service screen. If your pc can't see the chip and it did before then the chip way be fried. can you get to evox at all? If you can then you can xbox app to flash the bios I can say about the DO lead but if you see xecuter under xbox logo after boot then the I think the do is fine, Fi you get a green eject button and no vidio or sound then may be bad ground if you get green red flashing eject then bad bios a works fine then dosn't could be many things to hot bad chip deftive MB
