Forget that - I'll flash m'boobs if sumbuddy can tell me wit I'm dae'n wrang!!!! Told you all I'd be screamin' for help. Just connected my "Box" up (and I'm no' even sure that's right). Firstly it found something like 248 channels, but I couldn't see any of them, so I tried again - this time it came up with 120 something channels, but most of them say "scrammbled or bad channel". Gaunnie sumbuddy tell me which button tae press tae make this thing wurk?!! Ohh aye - when it gives me options for the wee search of the networks, there isn't a VC option just an N T L one so I'm using that, it that right? I'm in Glasgow by the way. Ta Muchly Jx
OK firstly is it "The Box" you have? What is your provider, e.g telepest etc. Also press menu and system info and post what it says please.
Provider is Virgin as was N T El. Just tried a scan again and I have 374 prog found this time!!!! And I canny see any of them!! System info The Box API ver :2.60e Boot ver: 7.0 9. Apr. 2007
You need to update your firmware as they have sent it to you with just the free to air firmware. Do you have a null modem cable that was sent with the box?
I got a computer cable with my box - not sure what kinda cable it is just that it's got blue insert ports!! I know, not much help am I?
Hope your ready then You will need a null modem cable DB9F to DB9F (The one you probably have). Similar to this one Null modem info http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L71BT&DOY=2m6 If you are using a laptop more than likely it wont have a D9 serial port,(unless it is an old laptop), you will also require a USB adapter to use in conjunction with the null modem cable. Make sure your USB adapter is a USB to serial port adapter similar to this one. USB Adapter info http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Modu...erial Adaptor These two cable links are only for reference as they can be purchased alot cheaper on fleabay. But as said you already have the null modem cable. All firmware/loader can be found in the link at the end of my post marked Eamos FTA Library. You will need the GTromloader, (Starview Software Uploader), found in the Starview Software folder of the link. You will need version 4.51 firmware found in "The Box" firmware folder. You can also download the Starview PDF Guide found in the Starview Documentation folder, this will show you a step by step guide on how to flash "The Box".
All the info you need is in the post I made including what lead you need for a laptop and all the firmware/loader and the guide so all you need to do is follow the instructions they are quite easy to do, believe me.
Looks like I have the port at the back of my lappy for the first plug, do I still need the USB adapter too?
Bet you dont the port on the back of your laptop will be a 15pin more than likely you need a 9 pin socket. Never know though if its an old laptop you will have a 9 pin serial port.
You're just fantastic you know that? You blinkin' right - so it's the USB adapter I need then - right?
Yep you need that to use in conjunction with the null modem cable. You then plug the USB serial port adapter into the USB port of the pc then plug the null modem cable into the other end of the adapter and then into the back of the box. Follow the instructions above for the rest. Sounds like a lot but it isn't really and if you follow the instructions to the letter it will only take you a few minutes to have "all" channels.
Ta muchly, I'll order an adapter fron fleabay then set too it, now don't go bookin' any holidays - promise?!! Jx
As said you should have no problems. Best of luck if you do run into any problems just drop back anytime.
OK jist let me check I've down loaded the right stuff. I've got GTRom_v4.00 thebox_UK_H20070709_451eE_api as well as the Starview_Guide All I need is the USB to serial port adapter - is that right?
