I used dvd shrink to extract some movies and burn them with nero. When I try to use these 2 programs on xp home the dvd shrink seems to work fine but when i go to burn the movies it gets to about 3% and an error pops up saying "focus on tracking error" and "burn process failed at 4x(5,520kb/s)". I tranfered all my files over to win 98 and they burned there no problem. Any one have any idea as to why I get this error on xp?
DVD-R 4x..Doesn't seem to be any brand name written anywhere. I have burned about 30 movies with these media but not with shrink and nero. Its just strange that it works on 98 for me but not on xp.
1. Cheap media skips, freezes, fuzzes, pixelats, refuses to be recognized, partially jams and of course, our good old standby, either doesn’t burn or doesn’t play at all :-( Cheap media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely Big-th way ! 2. A top grade media is needed for DVD reproduction ! Ritek G04's or Verbatim are what we’re looking for OR any media boasting “Advanced AZO Metal Dye”, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are a bit “pricey” they are acceptable. Prices online from Meritline.com have gotten Ritek G04 to down around a dollar a disc - Question - If you make coasters out of 3 cheap discs and good copies from 3 Verbatim discs or 3 Ritek G04 discs - which ones then are too expensive ? Remember, Memorex, Fuji, TDK, Orange Pack and others are good for your MP3 music, picture archives, Spread sheets, Data and your text backups and archives, they just don’t work well for DVD backups. Pete
I had a friend bring over one of his media that he uses (don't know the brand either) and I got the same error. I will see if I can pick up one of the brands u mentioned and give that a try. Thanks Pete.
why does everyone say cheap media sucks? they all said that with cd-rs and i paid $150 a year ago for a crate of 750 durrabrand online and i have used all but maybe a hundred, and i have NEVER had a problem with them, and i buy DVD+R cheapest that i can find and have only had 4 coasters- OUT OF LIKE 150 burns. so dont believe them barcardi, they just want to have "security" on higher brand media,- sure if you got the money why not go with the name brand, but if you dont like me, get the cheapest ones. And all my DVD backups work fine, and they didnt "wear out" or "expire" because some i burned 2 years ago and those still work. and no matter whats wrong with the media it wont cause the picture quality any damage, either- its digital, its not like buying a low grade VHS tape, what you see is what you get the 1st, 2nd, 1,000th time you watch it, try burning the DVD at a slower speed, my burner only burns at 2.4x so try that.
Personal experience coupled with the dozens of people coming here having problems with said media. Why do you have such a problem with recommending good media?
What makes you think that because you got a good batch of disc and have been lucky to date that everyone else in the world will get good batches and have your luck too ? Pete Really too bad you couldn't help all those on this forum who had bad media - prehaps a few words from you and all would have been better -
yeah it think its kinda coincidental that out of like 30 or so packs or dvdrs ive bought i havent had a problem, i think the rest of you are just brand whores.
I never said you should. Unless you're getting your discs for .50 cents apiece, Riteks aren't twice as much anyway. With that statement, you're dismissing everyone else's valid advice which I find a bit disrespectful to the other people here trying to help and a disservice to bacardi who's problem very well may be helped by using high quality media. I'm not disputing the fact that you've had stellar success with the cheapest media you can find - that's great but you must realize that your success stands in contrast to a very many people who come here with problems related to poor media. This is a forum for help, not a place to crusade for the glories of cheap media. Take care.
Well golly gee pcshateme, while searching your posts it seems that we were OK when you needed questions answered but now we're not, we're just whores. Guess you have reached that awesome level where you know all there is to know about everything - how lucky you must be - I am sooo glad to know that you'll not be requiring any further aid from us - You'll be missed - - - Naaaahh, you won't be -
Well I decided to give xp another shot last night using the same media and it worked with no errors. I did notice however that xp seems to take allot longer than 98 to copy and burn a movie. I think it almost takes me half the time with 98 compared to xp. Great forums btw. Good to have a place to get lots of tips and info
Glad to hear you're on the right track barcardi, Come on back anytime and we'll be glad to help - Pete
