Am i right in thinking that these programs will allow you to fit a dvd file onto a cd, or a larger file which would not normally do so.
Cus i have been trying to find a product that will.

MPEG4 AVIs will play only on the latest standalone DVD players.
These will advertise MPEG4 or DivX logo somewhere on them...
Otherwise will play only on PC.
MPEG4 AVIs are an archival format, kind of a ZIP file for DVDs.
You can store and serve content on your LAN or backup DVD to CD (to take to the cottage or whatever...)
If you wish to backup DVD to DVD, that is a different matter.
    For DVD9 (dual-layer) to 4.37GB DVD5 (single-layer) DVDShrink is popular.
    Regards

It is nothing like Zip, zip is lossless, MPEG-4 is not (although AVC can be lossless).

As said you can't fit 4.7GB's into 700MB's. You can convert something that is 4.7GB's into something that is 700MB's, but that is not the same thing.

if you want to put your dvd on to a cd what you ned is a program like movie jack or dup dvd, these programs will put the movie in the right format to do what you want it will take two cd's or three cd's depending on the size of the dvd and it takes a long time to do it about 20 some odd hours
