Whats up? I need a free program that opens and compresses files to RAR and Zip formats. I look and look but all I find is free ones that only do zip. How do I encrypt my harddrive? Im doing it for security reasons and if a hacker gets through my firewall and all that other crap protecting my computer. Is it a good idea to do that anyways? thanx, shivera
Dont think a free one exsists. 1. W2K and WXP have some form of limited encruption 2. DriveSafe, FolderGuard, etc. A quick google will show you plenty.
Like Praetor said, windoze xp and 2000 have folder encryption abilities, if partitions are NTFS ones. Whole another case is if that's wise (encryption eats up hd performance a bit) to do for regular user. You really have something what is that important? If so, why not store them to cd or any other removable media and remove files from hd? Praetor mentioned program solutions too, you might want to check those too. Not have had need to make zip files lately, am using winrar only and making self executables archive sets if needed. Winrar never the less opens both formats and bit more.
